I've made a trip throughout Lahemaa NP and I wanted to make a stop at Altja Kõrts to have a drink and a snack because I read on the information sheet provided by the NP that it was always open . Well , they were wrong ! It's a pity because it seemed to be a lovely place .

The Altja village is quite small, so you cannot miss this tavern located just at the village entrance. We arrived on a week day on a cold October day and were served some great Estonia fare. Recommended, and easily combined with a visit to the Viru bog that's not far away.

The place is cozy, the staff is friendly and the food is tasty and traditional. Estonian typical food.

Old tavern with outside seating, perfect for a beer in the sunshine after a little hike. Food also looked pretty tasty, closes at 8 pm already!

Almost every item of earthenware crockery was chipped including the spout of the coffee pot which caused coffee to go in all sorts of directions. Mashed potato was watery, vegetables very salty indeed, and the coffee barely warm. Not recommended.

This reastaurant building is unique, old log house with a living roof! The food is very tasty even if traditional Estonian. We liked it a lot!

We stopped by for dinner when visiting Lahemaa NP. Despite being fairly empty the restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and you can tell it is well set-up for big groups. I had a light bite - potato with herring & cream cheese, my friend had a 'traditional' roast pork main. The puddings were delicious & huge portions.

Had meal as part of tour. Very good local fish cuisine, served by friendly waitresses. There is also a pleasant beach walk nearby.

Went for quick dinner with toddlers. Only few other guests. Food came quite fast, and was good (had various fish dishes). Kids dish also ok. Very lovely atmosphere, in this old fisher barn. Feels like tavern from 100+ yrs ago. Not expensive, not cheap, fair.

Thank oxygen11

Altja Tavern is located in Lahemaa National Park in Northern Estonia. It is about 90 km from Tallinn to Altja fishing village. The tavern with its old thatched roof and unspoiled décor is a good place to have for a decent meal for any passerby intending to get to know the area.

Several renovated manors and important camping trails are situated nearby. Upon reaching Altja, one can comfortably park the car or tourist bus in our spacious parking lot. Before having the meal, it is recommended to walk along the old village road to the fishing net shed on the headland. There, one can enjoy an amazing view to the sea. On the way back, after swinging on the village swing, it is the right time to stop in the tavern. We offer simple but delicious Estonian dishes. If the weather permits, it is possible to sit on the terrace, have a picnic in our spacious courtyard, or arrange outdoor events. During the summer, we advise larger groups to make a booking in advance. If desired, we can also invite folk musicians to give a performance. Everyone is welcome.
