Manhattan wants to be a high-end restaurant, but they've missed the mark. Our Maitre D'/waiter was snarky, condescending, and ultimately rude - definitely in the wrong line of work. The menu has a lot of options, but our dinners weren't all that special. They do have live music some nights, It's convenient, in the Empress Hotel, but there are a... More

We always make a reservation here when we are in town. We LOVE the ambiance, atmosphere, them and decor, and the warm and coziness of the restaurant. Usually there is someone in the main room playing the piano, next to the bar. The back room has a fish tank and circular booths. We prefer that room, as it is somewhat... More

4 different sets of bus. friends said this was great--especially since we were staying at the hotel--The Empress in La Jolla. Not; despite the attempted decor update to Post-Modern the service was lacking and the awesomely inspiring food delivery was late and, uninspired. Skip it and do better for yourselves.

Wow, what a wonderful experience! My daughter and I were extremely impressed by the ambience and staff, and the eggplant caponata was undoubtedly the best dish I have had in a long time. If you're craving a bit of old-time Manhattan charm, this is definitely a place to consider.

Hubby and I had been here a year ago with dear friends. It was so good that I've been wanting to go again ever since! So last night we joined the same couple once more and also invited a third couple to join us. It was even better this time than before, if that is indeed possible. The atmosphere is old-school... Looking for Italian dinner? Go here. Easy to find in the Empress Hotel. Generous servings (we'll split next time) of Cannoli - probably the best I've ever had. The other dish we tried, also enough for two, is the sausage and peppers - Wow!

This is a very popular place for old fashioned Italian food and atmosphere. But it also rocks in the evenings with a lively pianist and a small dance floor. People of all ages, singles and couples, pack the bar area almost every night. The bartender used to serve the wonderful Whaler cocktail made locally famous in the old Whaling Bar... More

Went for dinner during their frank sanatra night. Not sure if that's what they call it, lol, but there was a guy there singing that style of music live. He was fantastic. The dinner was amazing, the service was amazing. Our server was an older Italian looking guy and he was funny and charismatic and it was overall just a... More

Manhattan of La Jolla transports you to the best of New York via the cozy, upscale village of La Jolla. Located in the Empress Hotel on Fay Avenue, it is an elegant, casual and classy place where you would expect to see Old Blue Eyes or Danny Ocean romancing a beautiful woman while she sips her Cosmo over dinner. With quality Italian charm, Manhattan offers classic cocktails that get you into that New York swing--and the entrees are as good as it gets. Liberal olive oil, garlic, lemon and pepper complement the Zagat Award winning veal chop, steaks and seafood.
