We go here a lot - standard Mexican food, lots of choices, good service. Close to home, large parking lot.

Have lived in Lafayette for over 20 years and El Charros was always the go to place for Mexican food. Unfortunately, the last two times I have taken friends from out of town there the food was not good. They were as shocked as I was. First experience they said the food was so bland and unexciting. Except for the... More
Of the dozen or so Mexican restaurants in the Lamorinda area, El Charro is hands down the best there is. Warm, relaxing setting, great service and exceptional food make this a stand-out - one of the top five mexican restaurants I've visited in the country (and I've visited mexican restaurants from Maine to Washington and Miami to San Diego). Extensive... More
We visited for lunch midweek as a party of five and sat outdoors in the back deck area. Although it was a hot day, it was very pleasant to sit in the shade of the large trees around El Charro. Relaxing and well decorated, with sounds of a fountain in the background. We had plenty of time to enjoy it... More
We ordered. vareity of dishes including relanos, chimichanga, tacos, enchiladas. This was a party of seven and we were all pleased. Also we had one person order a hamburger and fries and it was good.
El Charro is a legend in Lafayette. Opened in 1965 and going strong ever since. They are very packed both for lunch and dinner. Solid Mexican food with fresh ingredients. Great drinks and a nice bar also. The food is prepared and piping hot when served. Love it. My favorite are the chicken and cheese enchiladas. Cooked to perfection always... More
I went here for dinner. It was awful. It started out with a really bad student server who, although authentic to the restaurant's ninth street roots, blinded me with her wardrobe choices and spoke so fast we could barely understand her. The patio was nice. About 45 minutes into ordering we asked where our food was and were told it... More
First time here, was with my girlfriend and her parents, 40+ years ago. I've had the burritos, tacos, enchiladas, chili verde. Of course, I couldn't have a beer then, but I do now :). I try never go here when I'm in a rush, or if it looks packed, but sometimes no choice and have never had a problem. Servers... More
We love this place and have returned many times. The food is tasty and there is something for everyone. The service is terrific - very friendly and warm. Call ahead for a reservation though as the line can get long.
Very busy and popular Mexican restaurant. The sampler plater is great, can't beat the chili relano. If you like shrimp the shrimp salad is fabulous. Lots of medium size shrimp, avacados, cucumbers, tomatoes. It comes with spicy ranch but if you really want to taste the Fresh flavors go for regular ranch.
