After 13 days on the road we had a delightful dinner with family and friends at Philippe's. The "dip" sandwich was great and deserts were awesome. It was a casual dinning experience which is just what we wanted. I would eat there again anytime.

Finally got to experience this famous LA sandwich place. I felt like I was stepping back in time. Food was delish, had beef, pork, chili and pickled eggs. I will have to return for the lamb and turkey because they look yummy too

When we go to downtown or a game at Staples, we try to have a quick meal here. Always getting sandwiches and coleslaw. Generally we try a couple other items such as chili and the pickles. You order at the counter and they take your tray to your choice of many tables. I had the turkey dip and my husband... More

This is a unique Los Angeles eating place . Down to earth and very original. Old time, with the best " dip sandwich you have ever had" Take a step back to the days of Los Angeles in the 1920s. Quite an experience .

They don't give you the dip sauce on the side anymore so you can't "dip" your French Dip. They said it was due to some county health regulation. sigh.

Great food, atmosphere, and history! The lamb was awesome, small beer a perfect companion, and casual, old school atmosphere a delight. My family has been coming here for decades, but I live on east coast so it's always a treat for me! Can't visit LA without a trip here. 😀

I had never heard of Philippe's but it was recommended by a friend for a group breakfast meeting. It would probably be described as being a little quirky but that just adds to its charm. There's probably not too many restaurants in the Los Angeles area that have sawdust on the floor and a group of OLD phone booths inside.... More

This was a most delightful discovery. We greatly enjoy restaurants where the past and present flow together seamlessly and Philippe's fit the bill. The food was good, the cafeteria style ordering unique, and the overall feel was that we were enjoying breakfast on the set of a movie set in the 1940's. Proximity to the historic Union Station and Olvera... More

I might recommend going earlier in the day, because we went almost at closing and it seemed they were more interested in going home than focusing on sandwiches. (Somewhat understandable) tried the pastrami and the roast beef and both were good, but for me the pastrami blew the roast beef away. Asked for a double dip, but the au jus... More

I am a french-dip connoisseur. We came here to taste the first and the best. Really good, but not the best. Fair prices. Fun atmosphere. Really enjoyed the "train museum" in the back room.
