Excellent tasing dishes. Small, trendy restaurant in a historic location. The menu is always interesting. A refreshing experience!

We have been visiting El Dorado county for decades as we have family in the area. Usually our meal choices are few and far between, and rarely do they leave us feeling satisfied. The Lotus Pub has changed that! We were not expecting to find such beautiful, well-prepared food out in the middle of nowhere. I had the vegetarian hummus pita, which was unlike any I have had before. It was chock full of delicious vegetables, including an entire roasted red pepper, carrots, cucumbers, beautiful baby greens, flower petals, feta and well-spiced hummus. It was enormous, and I surprised myself by eating the entire thing, along with my side salad. My husband enjoyed the fish (prawn) tacos with a side of grilled corn on the cob. My son tried a couple of sides-- red beans and rice (underwhelming) and herbed potatoes, which were out of this world!!! The building is beautiful, the air conditioning heavenly, and the food amazing.

The Lotus Pub was one of the most disappointing places I have been to. On our way to a movie, 4 of us decided to stop and pick up something to eat. While they are striving to continue a healthy style of food - their menu is bare bones and service is S-L-O-W.
So we ordered soup - it was the quickest thing they could get us in under 1/2 hour wait. It STILL took 25 minutes to get 4 bowls of soup - and here's the kicker.... the bread that comes with the soup - was a slice of Wonderbread.
So here's my recommendation - if you have all the time in the world it's a quaint place and it looked like the food that other people were getting was good. But even with only 18 people in this place (and by the way it only seats about 30) the service is slow as snails.
Did we make our movie? Barely. And the soup was luke warm. Not a place I'll try again even if I have 4 hours to kill.

This restaurant in a historic building has become pub with very good food. As you come in the menu is posted on a chalkboard. After selecting your items you seat yourselves. The pace is relaxed. If you are in a hurry, go elsewhere. There is an outdoor seating patio but on a hot evening everyone was inside. My husband had an entre with lamb that was very good. I really liked my fish tacos. We will definitely come back.

Previously a fine dining establishment, we were dubious about going back as they morphed to a pub. But were surprised and delighted by the food, service and ambiance. It still has an old feel (the building was built in the late 1800s), is simply, but comfortably decorated, and cathedral food was fabulous! The is a foodies’ delight! Hubby had a vegetarian pita sandwich with cream of asparagus bisque soup and I had a shredded lamb pita sandwich with warm 6-bean salad. The food was wonderful!!!! Really wonderful! It’s so nice to get something different than the average fair offered everywhere else. They offer about 8 brews on tap; nothing to write home about but a decent selection. They also have a small but nice selection of wine. I was impressed to see a Viognier offered (it was lovely). And yes, the food here is more costly than a burger joint, but you get what you pay for. Everything is hand-made, including the bread and it tastes like it! We will definitely be going back to try the other menu items. Can’t wait.

Sign is up “Lotus Pub”. Maybe the same talented owners/chef. Reinventing themselves? Hope so. It was the best dining in lotus - Coloma.

This place has closed it's doors for good. There is a sign on the door. It looks like they will not be reopening.
Probably a good thing. We went there and they would not seat us without a reservation, even though there were plenty of open tables. I don't think you can act like a big city restaurant where there is literally nothing else around for miles.

We made reservations for dinner at Cafe Mahjaic based on countless suggestions, including the bed and breakfast we were visiting for the weekend. Seemed like a good choice, right up until we walked inside. A woman was allowing her adolescent daughter to seat people, which seemed cute, except for that the place was completely packed and there were only two actual servers working the entire restaurant. Our server, who did a great job juggling an enormous workload, did his best to keep up with more than a dozen tables he was tasked with. His partner was spread just as thin. It probably didn't help that the dining room was fairly warm, even for a cool summer evening, and if there was functional air conditioning it wasn't evident.
Eventually we did give our orders, and eventually the food did come out. The meals were unremarkable, but left us hungry. Unfortunately, water refills weren't possible until it was time to take dishes away and ask about dessert. My wife had creme brulee, because that's her favorite. It took a lot longer than expected, and came to the table with an unexpected purple hue over the top of an extra-thick solid crust. She chiseled away and finally made it below into the soft center, and it too was purple with a grainy texture. Nothing we had ever seen or tasted before, and barely resembled the popular dessert. Overall, this was a terrible experience, with too many faults to reconsider a second chance.

What a great little place! The food is delicious and fresh, the service is attentive but not intrusive, and the atmosphere is lovely. We enjoyed the prix fixe menu and it was nice getting to sample so many different things from the menu.
Definitely make reservations. Ours was at 5:45pm, and we were out around 8pm. There was another group of 4 waiting for our table.
Highly recommend!

Cafe Mahjaic, the name alone might confuse you that it might be an Indian restaurant, but it is American continental and all the food is farm to fork, so very fresh and very tasty and beautiful presentations, it is very small so do make reservations, and this can be easily done on OPEN TABLE. The servers all work together so, if you need anything you just need to ask. Plan on at least two hours when they are busy, but well worth the wait.

The wonderful, rustic ambiance of Cafe Mahjaic really sets the tone for a wonderful dinner to come. The menu has enticing choices, but it is hard to go wrong choosing their 4 course prix fixe menu. There are 4 offerings within each course, and it is hard to choose as everything sounds tempting. The portions are slightly smaller than off the regular menu, so the amount of food from 4 courses is about perfect. And the prix fixe dinner is $35. What a great value!
If we had to offer constructive criticism, our group all agreed that the kitchen is a bit heavy handed with the garlic. We all love garlic but it has to be balanced to the dish.
Looking forward to returning!

This little place is an adventure to find. Once you find it you will not be disappointed. You will drive along the river in Coloma Ca, beautiful area. You could take a little hike before dinner, lots of great trails. The Cafe Mahjaic is a little jewel the food is always amazing with 5 star service. We dine when we have a special event or family in town.
