Trying too hard. Not accomplishing enough. Overpriced, small portions trying to fit the foodie profile. Will not return. Old Adobe is nice spot but dark. Service perfectly good. Food pretentious and way overpriced. Drinks even more so. $8 beers in 8 oz. snifters, not a...More

The music is very loud and overbearing, a complete antithesis to the facility. I would say it is intended to please the wait staff and bar staff. When the manager was asked if there is a quieter part of the restaurant the answer was, "No,...More

We have been to some amazing restaurants in the world; but, 1833 is not one of those who warrant a rating higher than a two star. The building is an amazing historic adobe, grounds are pretty nice as you approach and then you walk into...More

All encompassing dining experience as the decor, layout, and food are all top quality. A very memorable meal and experience.

Restaurant 1833 is off the beaten path from the rest of the seafood/chowder/steak places that Monterey has to offer. We found this place by asking some locals for a non-touristy recommendation and we're glad we stumbled upon it. If you're a foodie and into craft...More

The food was excellent, but the service was awkward. We made reservations to go to Restaurant 1833 for my 30th birthday. When we arrived, the hostess was very cold and it instantly made us a bit uncomfortable. When she took us to our table, seeing...More

The menu was rather quirky with unusual flavour combinations. We were pleasantly surprised with our food - delicious, attractive and "European" proportions, A fun evening.

Wondeful place with great food. Service was a bit off, as others mentioned. But besides that, the place has many private nooks, cozy atmosphere and worth checking out.

We went this past Friday expecting a quality dining experience with Jason Franey's new menu....and were not disappointed. We've been going to 'Stokes Adobe' since 1968 in all its past lives....The building dates to 1833---hence the current name. I'll get the negatives out of the...More

We had dined at 1833 several times before, and it was one of our favorite Monterey restaurants – so we were excited to try the new menu and went for dinner about a week after they introduced the changes. Bottom line: while our meal was...More

We honestly do not know what its history has been. We just know that before this incarnation it had another name which we can pul from the memory bank and before that we can't say.

It depends on the month and size of your group. We had like over 24 + people. And, this was around tourist season in February. Options of seating time was provided to us after we called a day ahead. Call and plan ahead... More
