Tried the Pastrami Sandwich -- it was 'over-smoked' unseasoned beef. I had it on a homemade bun instead of the sliced sourdough as described on the menu. I asked for it with meat & cheese only. It came with mayo. The meat was extremely dry like sliced beef would be if you left it uncovered on the counter. The meat... More

Old Station is one of these tiny communities tucked-away in a secluded area of California that you come up to when exploring the far reaches of the state. It's not much more than a dozen homes, a small motel, a gas station, and... JJ's Café, which is probably the highlight. We stopped by here for lunch, while on a visit... More

Found this place out in the middle of nowhere on a drive from Portland Oregon to Louisiana. What a great find. Very nice people in a beautiful town of two buildings if I remember correctly. One thing I do remember correctly and will never forget is the burger. Simple, fantastic and delicious. I am not a burger guy and I... More

Called into JJs on our way from Lassen. It was very cold and Lassen was partly closed due to snow so a warm café was just what we wanted. Had pulled pork and brisket, one with fries and the other with coleslaw - both were delicious and plenty of hot coffee. We arrived just after lunch had finished so service... More

We knew we had to eat before starting the trek through Lassen but there was little to choose from. Thank heaven or we might not have driven in to this place. This place is very popular and I can see why. All the food seemed very fresh. I had a nice salad and there were a lot of nice options... More

We were spending the night in a camping cabin at Manzanita Lake in Lassen national Volcanic park. My idea of camping is being able to sit down and have a hot meal at night and if you want to see Lassen, JJ's is about the only game in town for dinner and it is surprisingly good. The café is very... More

The people are super nice. they make their own bread. they serve only Angus beef. and I, who doesn't like hamburgers, loved that cheeseburger. It is near the subway caves in Lassen. And it is worth going out of your way a little bit. It's awesome.

My husbands burger was good. My pulled pork was the best I've ever had. Not overly sweet. We liked our cole slaw but would have liked a bit more. The young lady that served us was very attentive and cheerful. We paid about $10 each. Normal for this area.

I really wanted to rave about JJ's. The new owners are great people and they work hard. But after several visits, the overall trend is not good: long waits, a couple of mistakes on orders, average-quality food. In past years under the previous owners, the food quality was better and the wait times less onerous. To be fair, the restaurant... More

At JJ's, we bake our own breads, pastries, pies, cookies, and more. We cure our own corned beef and smoke our own pastrami and pulled pork. Our burgers are made from a 1/2 lb of locally-grown, grass-fed Black Angus and served on a fresh-baked bun.
Come on up and join us. You won't go away hungry!
