My gosh- every thing was perfect. Greeted cheerfully, seated immediately and we were treated as if they were truly happy to see us. Nice spacing and clean. Food is excellent. Best fresh albacore I’ve had. Katsu was prepared perfectly and here’s what makes Anaba stand...out: Katsu is to be served upon a vented grill so it does not get soggy. This katsu was perfection. When leaving we re thanked repeatedly . We live Anaba and will certainly return.More

The multiple meals we’ve had here over the last couple of months have been some of the best sushi we’ve ever eaten. And yes, that includes our week in Japan. On our most recent visit here, we ordered tuna, salmon, yellowtail and amberjack sushi plus...a couple of rolls. Every bite of sushi was buttery smooth and perfectly savory. We all had our favorite but since I’m posting this I’ll break the tie and say the yellowtail has been the best. ;-) We’ve had a half-dozen rolls and they have all been flavor bombs of goodness. We have yet to have a bad bite.More

This was the second visit to Anaba for my wife and I, and it will be the last. It’s not like this is an awful restaurant but for starters when you spend $91 for sushi (over $100 with tip) and you walk away hungry, something...is not good. Our go-to sushi restaurant in Ventura is closer to home, less expensive, equal quality and better quantity. The service was better today than the first time although our waiter did let us down twice. 1 - for drinks we requested water. The waiter said the soda machine was down and he would bring us bottled water instead. He didn’t say that we were going to see a $6 charge on our bill for 2 small bottles of Voss water. Not right. 2 - we ordered the basic edamame which was described as being lightly salted. It had no salt and absolutely no flavor. 3 - we ordered 2 golf pro hand rolls, which have shrimp tempura as one of their ingredients. Upon ordering I requested that the waiter serve them to us as soon as they’re ready so that they’re still warm. He said “no problem” and then my wife watched as they sat on the kitchen counter for several minutes before they were finally served. Of course they were no longer warm. The golf pro hand rolls at I Love Sushi in Ventura have similar ingredients, however they include 2 pieces of shrimp tempura whereas the ones at Anaba only include one piece and a whole bunch of mushy spicy tuna. 4 - we ordered salmon and yellowtail sashimi and since it was not that much more money to upgrade to a higher grade from the belly of the fish we went ahead with that. Both the salmon and yellowtail were sliced almost paper thin (which I found insulting) so you could not appreciate the flavor or texture of the fish. A total waste of money. Normal sashimi is usually sliced two or three times thicker and is much more satisfying. 5 - last item was the salmon delight roll and it was excellent. We gave Anaba 2 tries and it just is not worth it. No mas.More

This is the worst Japanese restaurant in Oxnard, CA central coast. They don’t serve you water at all, the waitress forced you to buy their own bottle water, so they can make more money. Before we went there, we Googled their menu, It shows that...they serve lunch combo $12-$15 on the weekdays. but when we got there on Wednesday, they said, they don’t serve lunch items at all, we need to order dinner items $22-$35. Later we spent $55 for the thinnest and oldest sashimi. Apparently, this restaurant is dishonest, greedy and treated the customers like we all are fools.More

Went to Anaba for lunch with my wife on a Sunday when our favorite sushi restaurant, I Love Sushi in Ventura was not open. Anaba was recommended to me by some close friends and also my dental hygienist. Unfortunately, our first impressions were not good...as the restaurant was not crowded but it took way too long to offer us a seat and even longer to bring our menus and take our drink order. And to top it off our female server had the friendliness of a cactus. I will say, however, once our order was submitted the food came reasonably fast. The salmon sashimi was excellent and fresh. We have always loved the golf pro hand roll at I Love Sushi and was surprised to find it on the menu at Anaba - I wonder who had it first? Anyway, it was basically similar to the ones we were used to but for some reason it didn't POP like those at I Love Sushi - it was good but just not the same. We also ordered a yellowtail sashimi salad - don't waste your money. The greens are from a prepared mix and the sashimi was sliced so thin you couldn't enjoy the flavor or texture of the fish. If you like yellowtail just order the sashimi by itself. We also tried the salmon lover's roll and it was excellent - wonderful flavor and texture. Overall the quality of the fish was very good, although prices were about 15% higher than I Love Sushi. Since we live in Ojai and I Love Sushi in Ventura is a 25 minute drive and Anaba is an extra 15 minutes beyond that there really is no reason to drive the extra miles and pay about 15% more for sushi that is not superior to what we are accustomed to. If we were to meet our friends at Anaba for a meal we would be fine going again but other than that I don't think we will return.More

The restaurant sits you down for lunch and then says the lunch menu specials are not available. I had to order the kitchen specials. It’s the same thing but more money. $20 plus. They told us they don’t have tap water. I took there word...for it so bought the expensive bottle water. I have been back after many months have passed to give it another chance in spite of the dishonest experience. it’s the same thing.! We tried to order from the lunch menu they gave us but said we had to order from the other menu which was exactly the same but more expensive. My friend asked for water and was told they don’t have it. He had to buy the expensive bottle. The table next to us must have been friends with the owner because when they asked for regular tap water, they got it free. I felt really discriminated against and without cause. This is their trick to take advantage of us and to rip people off. Bad service to boot.More

We have lots of experience eating Japanese food both in New York City and Japan, and this restaurant was very good. The sushi was fresh & creatively prepared, plus the service was prompt.

The food is not bad for round-eyed customers. But for those who know their sushi, one quickly sees that the chef is not Japanese. There are subtle differences in how the Koreans make their Kimbap. But the food was appetizing and creative, just not real...Japanese. What lowered the rating was their coditions during Covid. They filled up the restaurant during the Covid Health mandate while they were in the Orange zone. Over 50% of Oxnard is un-vaccinated so I really didn't feel comfortable being arms length away from a total stranger without masks. Hopefully they are following other health mandates such as washing after using the restroom. Plenty of good Japanese run sushi places in the area.More

We were blown away by the excellent quality and presentation of our meal, the friendly and VERY efficient service and the reasonable prices. Our order included garlic edamame, ginger salad (amazingly fresh), miso soup, sashimi platter and a Golden Tiger Roll. We are already planning...to return! Don’t miss this one. **Ambiance - it is in a strip mall; it’s small with a couple of tables which are overlooking the water and the other 10 or so tables are by the sushi bar. Not elegant by any stretch but we agreed it’s the most outstanding sushi/sashimi we have ever had.More

Our fav sushi place in Oxnard. Super fresh, great service and a large variety of specialty rolls. The honey habanero roll has a great kick and the dynamite shrimp app was super tasty.
