Recommended by the hotel and lived up to it. Lovely husband/wife team with very tasty food. Don't be put off by the name. It's a yummy Japanese infused meal and nothing like a grill. Quality and good value.

Max's is now a tradition with us -- we drive there at least once a year from 100 miles away; have done so now for 5 years. This April 26 we celebrated a birthday with Butternut squash ravioli and Dungeness crab cakes and Hawaiian mango mousse cake for one of us, and a garden salad, pot roast and chocolate mousse... Upon arriving at Max's, we realized this was not really the cool, modern Asian fusion restaurant we were hoping for. We stayed anyway, and found that it is a good, very reasonably priced restaurant with some nice food choices, in a setting which could use some updating. The paint color was a muted mauve, and the artwork was very Asian... More

I don't really like writing negative reviews, especially of a small family owned restaurant run by nice people. Other people like it more. My wife and I try it every two or three years. We order different things but always come away feel it was average. Doubt if we. Will go back. Sorry.

We were glad we chose Max's, off Lighthouse in Pacific Grove, because the Monterey area was extremely busy with spring break crowds. Although we had reservations, we didn't need them, and we were greeted and seated immediately. Our server, Lasandra (sp?) was sweet and helpful, answering all of our questions about he beverages and food. I ordered one of the... More

Returned here on this trip and validated our first experince. A small family on owned restaurant serving freshly prepared American style food at a reasonable price. They offer a three course meal for $25 which includes soup or salad, choice of entree, and desert OR a glass of wine. Hard to beat, especially given the quality and service.

Max's has become our go-to dinner place on our twice-yearly visits to PG. Food is delicious, portion size is perfect, wine selection just right, and service is friendly and attentive. For New Year's Eve we shared the crab cake appetizer (fresh crab and very little filler). Our entrees were sand dabs and calamari steak - both cooked perfectly with a... More

We ordered two prix fixe dinners. Both ordered the spinach salad and the sand dabs and tira tiramisu. I asked for dressing on the side and did not want my sand dabs cooked in butter. They were able to accommodate my requests. The food was excellent and the waitress was attentive. The restaurant fills up, so make a reservation. Great... More

Went two nights for dinner, loved it so much after the first night. Had the mushroom soup, terrific! First night was hand made delicious ravioli, he had mushroom, I had butternut squash, both terrific, very generous pillows of awesome goodness. I also was able to slide in some chocolate mousse, did not disappoint. Second night we started with the mushroom... More

Nice little place for Thanksgiving. We both had the rib eye - very good. Butternut squash soup was delicious! It was very reasonable for a price fix menu! We think a lot of people ordered the rib eye and it seemed to overwhelm the wait staff. We would eat there again!
