You get what you pay for and maybe more. Really decent-sized burgers for the price. I ordered a double cheese burger because it was only $7. It turned out be a lot of meat! The fries were the fairly thin type and were okay. I didn't care for their catsup's taste and my wife grilled chicken was over cooked. The... More

Returning from Tahoe and our first choice for lunch was closed; so, we decided that a good hot dog would be an option. This little place met the ticket; lots of choices for dogs and burgers. Good, friendly service; this is not a fancy place and harkens back to the '50's. The hot dogs were delicious!

I stopped here for lunch one day on a recommendation. I heard their pastramis were excellent and the fries to die for. I got the pastrami sandwich and it was good, lean meat, but a tad overdone, but the chili cheese fries were awesome. Ate them all. next time I will try the dogs.

You don't go here for the decor. You go her for the freaking BURGERS! You want one. You want one RIGHT NOW!!!!! An old-fashioned 50s style experience. Mel's gives the appearance of nostalgia, Shoestring is the real thing to the bone.

Forget fast food. Everything here is cooked while you wait. The meat is greasy and full of flavor. The fries are plain, covered in cheese or better yet chili and cheese. Your basic old fashion burger joint. Some covered outdoor seating in the front.

Their chill cheese fries are outstanding and all of their hotdogs I have enjoyed. The only exception would have to be for their corn dogs that they say are home made, yet the stick says foster farms. I have called them out on this a few times, yet they still want to deny it. I don't care if they are... More

The food was pretty good for a drive in. It took a long time to get the food. No restroom avaliable. The weather was nice which came in handy as it was outdoor dining.

Shoestring has been in Placerville for a long as I can remember, and that's a long time. I have to admit I have a soft spot for the place as it was my dad's favorite place to eat. They have crushed ice, is one reason. And they have good food. Not the best you will find, but good. They have... More
