I was so happy to have an opportunity to dine here. The volunteers who care for the Steinbeck home have given us all a special treat. The three largest rooms on the main level have been converted into dining rooms with about four tables in each room. The rooms are beautifully decorated in a theme that befits the age of... More

We recently attended a celebration Lunch party for my Aunt's 75th Birthday. We were greeted by friendly volunteer ladies. Would recommend ordering the Special entree, it was far superior to our run of the mill sandwiches ( AND DO NOT ORDER THE MONTE CRISTO, JUST AWFUL!) Steinbeck tea was good but sweet (similar to an Arnold Palmer.) The Creme Brulee... More

A place to learn more about our local famous author John Steinbeck (Of Mice and Men, East of Eden, etc) and have a delightful lunch (get reservations!) afterwards.

Super little place to grab an excellent meal but the energy & commitment of the Steinbeck House volunteers makes a visit extra special. The menu is quite broad and the liquor list is limited but inclusive. Prices are a bit low for the quality coming out of the kitchen but that's fine with me. We visited on St. Patrick's Day... More

We didn't know it existed until the day before so we quickly made a plan to visit. They were having tea and were full so we were only able to visit the gift shop. We were amazed to see a, to scale, model of the house there. The story of how it came to be built was interesting. The ladies... More

I took my Mother here for her birthday. I have not been here for over 30 years! The food was as good as it was then. We each had the entree of the week, which was Chicken Cordon Bleu. It was perfectly prepared and served with rice and local vegetables. As it was her birthday, she got dessert for free.... More

Showcasing the produce that grows in the Salinas valley that John wrote about, this restaurant, serving cheap and delicious simple food, is staffed by cheerful volunteers. The food is only a small part of the attraction however - getting to look around, and eat in, the house where John Steinbeck grew up is the main draw. The upstairs part of... More

Fantastic volunteers, who are the servers, fantastic cook, lunch in Steinbeck's home. They close at 2:00, limited space for seating, so you should make reservations during busy lunch time, BUT, we got there at 1:20 and they were able to seat us, party of 3. Weekly food specials, but other items available. Desserts were great, too, we tried all 3... More
