About
With a fresh, de rigueur exterior of barn-red paint, the interior expresses the warmth of a local tavern, using clean lines and a rustic feel. Accented with oak, restored branded wood beams, a white paneled ceiling and wrought iron lighting, the L-shaped room is refreshed, with higher ceilings and massive glass windows that open the space. As before, there is an open display kitchen observing the chefs at work. Newly created for the restaurant is a glass-enclosed wine room flanking the dining room that co-exists with two wood-burning fireplaces preserved from the original Red Barn. Firewood is supplied by the Agin Brothers, the family that has serviced the Nichols family with seasoned wood for ten years. Two wrought iron and rope chandeliers, hand crafted by local blacksmith Hans Duus, illuminate the room and are lighted with replicas of vintage Edison light bulbs, with more of the Edison-styled glass globes accenting the room. The walls are decorated with historical photographs of Los Rancheros Visitores, the club of local horsemen and ranchers dating back to 1929. Salvaged during the construction was wallpaper discovered under layers of paint and paneling, beautifully illustrated with dancing girls, pistols, playing cards and saloons, now preserved, framed, and gracing the dining room walls. JC's handsome bar was created by locals Scott and Chris Bruhn who used a felled pine tree salvaged from Figueroa Mountain to form the expansive bar top.

This is a fun, lively spot that is a locals favorite. The ribeye steak was tender, juicy and arrived right from the grill - wonderful. The halibut special included a generous and superbly cooked piece of fish -- delicious!

Dish after dish, the quality of the food that this kitchen provides is amazingly delicious. We have had dinner here several times over the last few years. The first time we were lucky enough to wait and be seated, this time we made a reservation. It is popular, even on a Thursday night. She ordered one of the Thursday night specials, fillet minion tacos. I had an inch thick pork chop. It came with bacon mashed potato, perfectly done green beans and baby carrots. We split a Caesar salad, no split fee. The salad was so good, I nearly forget their bread, which is made in house. Of the four kinds, we ate it all. We ordered Pinot Noir, ended up with a total of one and a half each, or three. Barely able to finish every bite, which we did. Matt, our exceptional wait staff, bought out the dessert menu. I believe he was such a wonderful storyteller, that he convinced us to get one Raspberry sorbet. It also came with a chocolate cookie. I hope that each of you who reads this has the opportunity to have lunch or dinner here.

We had a reservation in the “side room” which is an obvious addition to the traditional restaurant building. It was actually quieter and more spaced out than the “main room”, a pretty rustic atmosphere but that didn’t impact our enjoyment of our terrific meal at all. Steaks, prime rib, salmon entrees were all beautifully prepared and served. Sides were unique and fresh. Desserts were generous and delicious and also unique, but not overly dramatic thankfully. Every bite was wonderful we all agreed. We were so pleased to be “out” again as a family. The table servers were friendly but professional, so efficient and just added to our evening. We know some restaurants have had trouble with staffing as they re-open, not here, seamless service throughout the evening. This is a solid establishment and we hope to return soon!

My wife and I decided to visit the wine country over Presidents Day Weekend and I was looking forward to dinner Sunday night at Brothers because it was the best prime rib I had ever had on my first visit. I went a second time last year and it was just as good, so I made a 7pm reservation for dinner. We got there a little early but a table was ready. It took a little while for our waitress to come by but when she did I was very disappointed to find our they were already out of prime rib. I think the waitress knew how much I was looking forward to the meal, that she could hardly be found the rest of the evening. My wife and I just split a salad, finished our wine and left because we had lost our appetite. No one even poured our wine for us. Just a terrible experience after two wonderful ones. I will probably go back again, but I will make sure to put in my prime rib order with my reservation.

We were celebrating the marriage of our daughter to the love of her life. Service was excellent and servings generous and delicious. We shared a selections of outstanding starters and for mains I chose the special - scallops. Grilled to perfection, large, juicy and wonderful. We enjoyed some good wine and our table became very silent when our dinners were served. The ultimate tribute to deliciousness. Thanks for a memorable evening.

Traveled to Santa Ynez President's Day to find my girlfriends favorite eatery closed for the day. A quick Google check brought up Brothers as a near by alternate option. It looks a little rough on the outside but the inside is nice and the staff was wonderful. I ordered the Brothers Burger and my girlfriend ordered the Stilton Burger from the lunch menu. Both were perfectly cooked (Medium Rare as requested), well balanced in taste, and clearly made from fresh quality ingredients. We both agreed that this is our new favorite spot for lunch in Santa Ynez.

On a cold and windy Tuesday evening, we enjoyed outdoor dining on their well maintained, lit, and warmed outdoor patio. Why is this important? My husband has terminal cancer. He is very immune compromised. However, he loves wine country and asked to visit a few of his favorite places while he still has the strength- but I have to keep him away from crowds… plus the whole “continued COVID thing.” So they were great to seat us on the patio with husband’s best friend… Morgan, faithful dog companion in a stroller. Husband certainly wasn’t able to eat all of the food they serve, the portions are large, but he loved trying the Prime Rib and the banana bread pudding. One day you’ll all find, the memories are all you’ll ever truly be able to hang on to… thank you for helping me to give Kevin a very nice dinner, and helping me to have a very nice memory…

We’ve been eating with the brothers, Matt and Jefferey since 2004 when they were at Mattie’s Tavern in LO. Followed them to Sides and now the Red Barn. For years we have taken the 1.5 hour drive from Ojai for their amazing food and especially, the burger. Back in the day it was the braised short rib and trout entrees on special occasions but the burgers have been the best I’ve found period. I used to say the best in a hundred miles but the truth is, nothing comes close at any distance. Matt is a true grill master. The wood, the fire, the quality of the meat and the fact it’s cooked to perfection - every time. They have been our go-to for almost 20 years now. Yesterday we were out in the beautiful SY valley and dropped into the bar hoping to satisfy a craving I’ve had for a great steak. I tried eating at other spots nearer to Ojai and as always, was very disappointed. I’m admittedly very picky when it comes to steak. I eat it very infrequently, so want it to be the best. In fact, I routinely drive 5.5 hours to the SW steak house at the Wynn hotel in Vegas for the domestic Wagyu NY. Yesterday I ordered the 14oz Rib eye at Brothers, medium. My wife ordered her usual, trout. It was perhaps the best steak I’ve ever eaten period. Every time my teeth met, there was an explosion of incredible flavor. Perfectly seasoned and no gristle, no rubbery, leathery bits to force down (or in my case, spit out). The fat was perfectly rendered and just delicious. Every bite absolutely melted in my mouth. Started with the wedge salad and a perfect Campari Spritz. The steak was accompanied by grilled carrots and string beans along with the most amazing garlic mashed potatoes. Truly the perfect ensemble. This place just absolutely rocks and delivers. Never even close to disappointed in 20 years, always blown away - but last nights steak was a next level dining experience. Thanks Matt and your amazing team for keeping the bar where you set it so long ago and never compromising. I LOVE this place!

My wife and I were celebrating our 44th Wedding Anniversary, and we LOVED this great place to eat! We had their chicken entree, and it was awesome! Growing up in the deep south, I am VERY picky about my creamed potatoes. Theirs were almost as good as my Mom's or my Wife's.........Outstanding! We WILL be back!

It's a not-so-hidden gem in the Santa Ynez Valley. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner and cocktails here and we will certainly return. The trout was so delicate and flavorful and the rack of lamb was also genuinely delicious. We remember eating at the brother's restaurant many years ago when they were at Mattis Tavern in Los Olivos. It is a cozy restaurant with absolutely fantastic service. Watching the staff move about and tend to each gust was like a well-oiled machine and we truly appreciate the grace and care that we were shown. We will certainly return on our future trips.

Santa Ynez is very unique. A small town of only a few blocks but with some great restaurants. Brothers is probably the best in my opinion. The food and service are excellent. The only thing that could be improved is the plating. But, that is a minor detail. We enjoyed sharing a tuna tartare followed by the rack of lamb and the fillet steak. Both were perfectly cooked. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Our meal for 2 with one drink each was 139 dollars including tax but nor service charge.

The meal was superb and the server, Andrea, was perfect. The seating was comfortable. The brothers even provided other diners who were most enjoyable:) What a perfect dining experience not to be missed! This was not our first visit and we hope to return again and again.

We met some local friends here for lunch. I so look forwward to visiting and seeing the Broters. Jeff was working this day and he is amazing. I ordered French Onon Soup. It had this wonderful flavor that I thought was wine. Jeff confirmed that they use Port. We all ordered dessert. I had the Home Made Dark Chocolate Gelato...OMG it is the best I have ever had. The Cheesecake I tasted was divine as well. Several Salads were ordered as well and the Chinese Chicken one looked the best. Must go here if you want a great Burger as well!

I ate there several evenings ago in late September. My reading of CA restrictions is that Santa Barbara county is in purple zone, which means no indoor dining. When we arrived (with reservations), we were ushered into a room that was not their normal indoor dining, but felt very much to me to be an indoor space, maybe 40x40, four walls and a ceiling, with a single door to the outside. That's not outdoor. I felt very uncomfortable, especially with three guys at the next table (yes, >6 feet away) who clearly didn't live in the same household. No one offered any alternative. Maybe there was an outdoor area, but we didn't see it. Food was solid, nothing great.

This is our second time at the Brother's and it will always be a place we'll get dinner when we travel to Solvang. Reservations are needed unless you get there right at 5 when they open, then you can sit at high top tables in the bar. What a fantastic tip we got while in Solvang last year. It is a MUST DO! We started with the calamari which was excellent along with the bread plate. Both my husband and I had the Filet which was made to perfection, the potatoes were amazing along with the vegetables. We will always go when we're in town.
