Our 2nd visit through Solvang included a must visit to Olsen's. The pastries and cookies are excellent albeit a little pricey but it's worth it. There is usually a long line and when it's finally your turn to place your order, you are not given a lot of time to decide since they need to keep the line moving. They don't have a listing of the pastries available posted anywhere and with an overwhelming choice of pastries and cookies to choose from, it's hard to make a decision on the fly so I would advise that you walk up front to the display counters and decide what you want first before getting in line.

My one "complaint" about this bakery was when I offered to buy everything, they couldn't come up with a price (hahaha). Honestly, it was hard to decide what to select because everything looked awesome... and we had just finished a great meal next door. From the history on the walls, this place has long had a great reputation. Congrats to the Olsen's on a great bakery.

My son and I wanted to test out the Kringle here versus Mortenson’s. We went here first. We got several treats, Copenhagen Kiss, macaroon, Kringle, cheese danish, and a couple more. They were all really good. The advantage here was that we could purchase a small “danish” sized piece. At mortensen’s, you had to buy a full, big Kringle. Which was disappointing there. Everything was delicious. We went in November, so while we had to wait in line, we were able to get a table. I’m sure the crowds are way worse in summer time. The cheese danish at Mortenson’s was a little better. But Olsen’s has WAY more variety of items. I’d pick Olsen’s over the other one for those few reasons.

Thank you for your 5 star review and patronage. A little about our history ... Bent and Suzy moved to Solvang in 1970 from Denmark and brought with them recipes that Bent's great, great, great Grandfather created so long ago. Today, they use those same recipes blending and baking in small batches by hand to ensure authentic Danish Kingle's, pastries, cookies, breads, etc. I'm glad you enjoyed your visit to Olsen's Danish Village Bakery!

Our hotel wine valley inn got their morning breakfast Danish pastries from Olsen. We were able to taste the cherry and lemon pastries which were ok - too sweet and a little stale. They do have jams which I was told to be good and they also have the cheapest danish butter cookies bucket comparing to couple of danish bakeries around.

Bearclaw Danish had fresh flaky pastry with a very nice flavor. Almond paste filling was delicious, but stingy on the quantity. Only a few bites actually tasted filling. 3.95 price is average for Solvang. Friendly counter service.

Very average fare, we bought an assortment and have to say this place is highly overrated or people have not tasted better baked goods. And it did not help that the lady behind the counter was sullen and serious. She seemed to be impatient and it was like she couldn’t wait for us to decide and move on. I wouldn’t waste my time or money on this place!!!

My wife and I stopped in here to pick up some birthday pastries. We picked out the coconut macaroon, the almond-raspberry tart, and the Queen Anne tart (chocolate and almond). All three were fresh and delicious. The woman who helped us was friendly and patient as we made our selections. So many to choose from!

We visited here one morning in order to sample a second Danish bakery. Unlike Berkholm's, this place was busy, busy, busy. It seemed like some of the folks were coming in to grab a coffee and a Danish as they waited for a table at Paula's Pancake House next door. They have a wide selection of pastries as well as other sweet delights like the custard filled, chocolate covered bun I ordered. My wife ordered the ham & cheese croissant. We were able to sit at a small table where we could enjoy our treats with tea and coffee. That was the best part about this place. People watching while relaxing at the table. If you are staying at any of the hotels in Solvang that are near Mission Drive, this is a great stop. It opens earlier (7:00 am) than some of the other bakeries and has plenty of staff to quickly get orders out.

This is one of our 2 favorite bakeries in Solvang. My husband and I did a bakery crawl one day to review all of the bakeries 😂 This one was in the top two. First, the customer service was very friendly! The pastries were better quality in comparison to others. My favorites are the owl eyes and the meringues. My husband enjoyed his cheese Danish. Go here, you won’t be disappointed!

Solvang is charming and so is the bakery. Located in the main drag one cannot miss it. The Danish and Cardomen bread are delicious. The aroma of fresh baked goods and friendly service will make you want to come back. The coffee could have been better.

I was a bit hesitant to stop and have a snack in a German town as I am not to fond of the German food I've ever tried. I could have eaten here all day. I have 2 different pastries that were outstanding and I wish I had more. Line moved fairly quickly.

What's a big middle-aged woman working at the counter was extremely rude, abrasive, and hostile. And she lied several times about the products they have, and I'm about the town. One of the rudest experiences I've ever had anywhere in the USA. They treat people like dirt here and this bakery.

The Vinland hotel where I stayed gave us a coupon for free Danish breakfast. It included two slices of cheese, choice of a hard roll and a Danish to drink they offered orange juice and choice of coffee, tea or milk. I enjoyed my choices of a raisin roll, cheese Danish and hot tea. Sat out side enjoyed the sun and great food.

Was on the way home from Morro Bay and stopped in for a special treat to take home so we stopped off at Olsen's in Solvang. And picked up some goodies and as usual were not let down. When in or around Solvang I always make it a point to stop at Olsen's as they are the best bakery in Solvang.

We wanted to try some different items at Olsen's and glad we did. The short dough raspberry tart and Queen Elizabeth tart were both delicious. Everything we have had here tastes fresh and flavorful. Even caramel macchiato was top notch.
