If you're just driving by, you might think The Breakaway Cafe is just another standard diner with expected burgers, soup, salad and fries on the menu. But it's a few notches above that, with unexpectedly delicious and unique offerings such as to-die-for fish tacos on Friday nights, and black bean nachos that are so incredible you crave them on random... Everytime we go here -- we wonder why we did. Even when restauant is not full, there is a wait to be acknowledged and seated. Wait for drinks, wait for food.. The food did not come out of kitchen correctly, and one time not at all.. Waitress was not good and seems overwhelmed. Prices, like all of Sonoma have increased,... More

Full disclosure: We moved to Sonoma three years ago from San Francisco and this is our go-to place for a nice dinner or lunch without breaking the bank. The food is always good, flavorful, and often great. Good drinks with a small but well-chosen list of wines by the glass. Full bar as well. Love the seafood dishes, taco salad,... More

Friendly, family comfortable, consistent. Atmosphere pleasant, casual dining with varied choices. Best fried calamari in the valley. Great duck confit. And they cook fish to perfection. I don't eat steak, but when I have gone with meat eaters they love the steak and pork chops.. p;s They also have very good breakfasts.;

Three friends joined me for breakfast at this locally-owned cafe. What a delightful time we had! Two had the "tiny omelette " and said the size was perfect. A third 70yo asked to order from the kids menu, and was accommodated graciously. I, of course, ordered Joe's Special, an old favorite I've missed since moving away from Calif. What a... More

The Breakaway is a mainstay in Sonoma, and with good reason. The food is always good and the prices are reasonable. They have great daily specials. Their menu has all the great comfort foods, and their specials are always delicious. The service is efficient and friendly. They always seem to be full, so that is a good sign of a... More

This is what it says, a cafe. There is often a line, and on weekends, the staff seems to be overwhelmed. However, for breakfast or brunch, Breakaway is the place to go. Their Mexican egg choices are delicious. The pancakes are huge (although you must pat $1 extra for 'real' maple syrup). The staff is friendly and the locals are... More

Went to Breakaway Cafe for dinner based on recommendation from our hotel, El Pueblo. The service was excellent and our party of four was very happy and thoroughly enjoyed our wine and meals. Two of us from our party had the clam chowder, Mexican burger, and flat iron steak. Wonderful! We're so glad we got the recommendation and dined at... More

We went here for breakfast and the food was very good. We both had the vegetable omelette with potatoes. The vegetables were very fresh. I would have rated it excellent if the service had not been a little slow. We came from Glen Ellen and it only took a few minutes to get here.
