Sometimes service is great here, sometimes it is terrible. Food is average-above average quality but fairly expensive.

All our food was delicious, presentation was exceptional, staff took care of all of us & nothing but good to pass along! Quaint little Steamboat has some fine restaurants & this one is tops on my list....my medium rare hottie burger was barking like i wanted it to be! Perfect!!!! Sea ya next time I'm (we are) in Steamboat...now will... More

Carl's is a pretty cool place, with a bit of an homage to Steamboat history (and the history of skiing in CO). Has a really nice bar for sports watching but is also perfectly good for families. Service is local, courteous and efficient. Menu has a decided southern bent and food is pretty good. The baby back ribs were actually... More

Tried this place after a recommendation . We were not disappointed. Great variety of beers, and a menu that is way more than a burger place-although one of the group had a burger and he raved about it. I had the fried chicken which was excellent. Enjoyed our meal here. Staff was very friendly and helpful

Carl's was busy, but we thought no worry we have a reservation. Unfortunately it still took between 20-30 minutes to seat us. Really enjoyed my ski jump burger though. Super tasty and fabulous huge onion rings. Were out of the monkey bread dessert we fancied.. probs just as well!!

Let me preface this review with the fact that we were there for the Super Bowl. So, obviously they were crowded and very busy. The food was about average. The mixed drinks were very good and strong. Here's the negative.... our total bill for 6 of us was $486. We tipped the waitress $86 total which is a little over... More

First time visiting Carl's Tavern. Decadent, and delicious...everything we ordered. We aren't "entree" type patrons. We generally order sides, appetizers or one entree, and split them. During this visit, we ordered a local, craft-brewed IPA and a signature drink, called The Jezebel. We visited during Happy Hour, so additionally ordered Crispy Brussels Sprouts, Wild Mushroom Risotto, Oysters and The Business... More

Nice atmosphere, we had reservations but decided to eat at the bar instead. That was a mistake. The bartender was a little surly , no help when navigating the menu and what are their specialities. But, the food was good and I saw the locals all ordered the onion rings. Doesn't sound great/ but these looked awesome. Kicked ourselves that... More

Had been here a couple of years ago and remembered the Brussels sprouts. Came this time with my ski club and bought them for the group. Everyone was as impressed as I. All of the food was great.

Sticky Chicken - May be one of the best appetizers we've ever had. May also be one of the spiciest! The honey and cayenne combo is out of this world... however, my palette enjoyed this much more with a big side of blue cheese. Jumbo Shrimp & Grits - with Tomato & Bacon Broth - Just AMAZING!! - That's all... More

Description
A place for the hungry. The thirsty. The legendary. Some people actually think the Wright Brothers perfected human flight. Around here, we all know better. Carl Howelsen turned Steamboat into a playground, skis into wings, and mustaches into an art form. His adventurous spirit is our inspiration - and Carl’s Tavern is a place for adventurous spirits to call home. Here, the hospitality is genuine, the beer is cold, and the food is made from scratch. So come as you are, make yourself at home, and share a few of your own legendary stories. Just don’t try to one-up Carl; you’ll hurt yourself.
