At first we were wondering if we were ever going to get our order placed, but finally the server came and everything started to move. We had a large appetizer of zucchini fries, very tasty and fed 5 of us easily. My husband had a seafood stew that he said may have been the best he'd ever eaten. My fish... More

Great food & ambiance. Went to dinner to celebrate our anniversary. Very happy with the visit. Great spot on the main street strip.

Have lived in Essex for a long time and been going to the Seal for over 15 years. Used to be a fun place with live music, tons of people, good food at good prices. Over the years it seems to have gone steadily downhill with no music, tired menu, uneven service, and general run down feel. It is so... More

Had lunch here today and was very disappointed in the meals. Ordered chicken wings for an app and the had to be the worst I ever had. They were very bland, no taste at all. You can tell they had been frozen with some frost bite markings on them. No flavor. Then I had the mussels for a meal and... More

If you're strolling down main Street and want a great burger, look no further becasue the Black Seal won't disappoint you. They have a nice menu and a neighborhood atmosphere that welcomes everyone.

We walked in on a busy Saturday at 11:30 AM to beat the crowd. There was a good-sized craft fair across the street. It was hot outside and this was a cool respite. There are many food options. We ordered a crab roll up and an oyster po' boy sandwich. The service was fast and attentive. My son thought the... More

Black Seal is an old staple . You see the same folks there for years who know each other . Basically a drinking hole with average food choices . Decent burgers and a good Cobb salad . Other than that I wouldn't get too excited .

My husband & I stopped in here a couple of weeks ago because it was nearby, casual, and reasonable. We both said it was an excellent choice. We had sandwiches which were "mini" meals - he had the fried oyster po'boy and I had a turkey sandwich that was like a Thanksgiving meal on bread. I envied my husband's sandwich... More

We have been coming to Essex Island Marina for 16 years have been to The Black Seal each time. The food is delicious! Salads are fresh and their burgers are to die for. We always look forward to eating here when we come.

We were in the area and looked up to see, which restaurants were in the Delta Dinning program and the Black Seal is. I eat out a lot all over the world, I have 1,300K miles on Delta. I know a good place to eat, from a bad one. If you are in the area, this is a safe place... More
