A challenging review to write. Our visit, a quiet Wednesday eve. First time despite living 10 minutes away for 25 years. Heard good things, Smithy delivered, like a lot in life, it's about expectations. As other reviewers note, the place is twilight-zone like, old school. Reminded me of being a kid going to some of the restaurants in VT and... More

This steakhouse is great. Very dark and cozy, not updated. They do not take reservations and the wait can be long. People go when it opens right at 5pm and through 9pm there is a wait. You can wait in the lounge area and get drinks while you wait, but lounge fills up fast. The food is excellent. The meals... More

Have to try Surf and Turf ..... All food is grilled in front of you. Very fresh salad bar. Priced correctly.

This restaurant has been in Monroe for a very long time. The inside is dark and outdated but the the food is always very good. The menu is small but has all the important items from steak, chicken and lobster tails. The service is always good. If you are looking for a cozy atmosphere with a fire place and delicious... More

Wow. We've lived in the area for a number of years, and never gave a thought to the Smithy until recently. Yes, it's dark, but it is a quaint, classic, 1950's style no frills steak house with delicious food and great service. There used to be so many similar steak places in Connecticut so we're glad there are still a... More

This place is easy to overlook... but don't. You'll be pleasantly surprised. It's been here for as long as I can remember. How convenient to have an authentic steak house right in the neighborhood. Sure, it's dark and outdated... but cozy and friendly. Nothing overwhelming. A succinct menu w/ a specials board on your way in. You know you're in... More
