Very disappointed. I have been going to El Pulpo for many years. I was there a month ago for my birthday and it was wonderful. However, I went there last night and their menu has changed. They took many things off the menu. I had...a scallops and lobster dish priced at $30. The scallops tasted bitter and the lobster was scant. Also, the service was not great.More

We have dined here may times over the years for both our personal enjoyment and business. So we were disappointed that our most recent visit fell far short of our previous visits and expectations. The tapas menu seemed limited and the choices we selected were...fair at best. With so many dining opportunities and many featuring small traps plates, we will take our business to seek out other restaurants to to our list of favorites.More

We have been here 4 or 5 times and have always had a 5 star experience. Anything coming out of the kitchen is perfectly done and full of flavor. They have amazing paellas but you should try some of the other dishes. Grilled octopus with...Spanish Aioli - try it - its special. Crab cakes with champagne sauce - mmmmm. Cod fish croquettes - wow. Grilled scallops and lobster over risotto with champagne sauce - you wont believe. Glazed duck breast, lamb chops with truffle potatoes - I could go on and on. Waitstaff is very knowledgeable and timely and the drinks coming from the bar are just as innovative. Try the Kentucky Gem, a special bourbon drink that isn't like anything else you've tried; truly a craft cocktail. A couple of dollars more than other area places but worth every penny.More

Food is excellent, don’t worry about the location. It is next to a tire/break shop but the food is very authentic.

Although the restaurant is in a strip mall, the ambience is not bad at all. The servers were attentive and patient. The Mediterranean seafood stew maintained its temperature (heat) for a long time and was especially tasty. Hot bread slices kept coming. A chicken dish...by one in the party was also appreciated. The portions were satisfactory. The arugula salad was quite appetizing, and we liked the Spanish drink much. Very good showing; we shall return.More

We took a good friend out to lunch for his birthday and he picked El Pulpo. The restaurant was very nicely decorated and when I peeked into the kitchen it appeared to be spotlessly clean. Our server could not have been nicer. We ordered three...appetizers: a octopus which was not listed on the menu, bacalao croquettes, and a shrimp dish. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, tender and on a bed of ground chick peas. Really delicious. The bacalao was not salty and was delicately creamy. The octopus was wonderfully prepared, very tender and served with roasted potato. Also delicious. My wife and I shared a risotto with seafood and it was wonderful. We are used to rice at Piolin and this was very different. The sauce was very creamy. I enjoyed the departure from the traditional. All in all a perfect lunch. My suggestion: share the risotto or the paella - the portion s that large. For a change of pace, forget the entrees and order enough of the appetizers to share. They are that good and there is enough of a variety that there should be something for everyone.More

I have a list of restaurants that I'd like try that I keep in my wallet and El Pulpo was one of them. We were deciding were to go so I pulled out my list. My friend looked up the menu and was very excited...by all the great choices that they had to off at El Pulpo. The restaurant has a nice patio to dine outside and inside has a small bar and a small dining room. I do recommend making reservations. The dining room is clean, colors are well appointed, and the decor is simple and elegant. Our waiter, Marlon, was professional, attentive, and quick witted. He had us laughing everytime he stopped by our table and made the experience even more enjoyable. My friend began with a nice glass of pinot noir. My wife had a glass of beer. And I had the Habanero Margarita. Delicious margarita with a slight kick from the habanero. I later had the Tropical Rita. Ciroc Coconut, creme de coco, pineapple juice, fresh mango slice, orange slice, and fresh lime juice. It tasted like I was sipping a drink on a white sandy beach in the islands. We began with a few tapas. Berenjena Gratinada; gratin eggplant with bolognese, blue cheese, roasted jalapeno. Piquillo Relleno de Cordero; spanish sweet piquillo peppers stuffed with lamb over grilled vegetables and a red wine black truffle oil sauce. And the Solomillo de Buey; filet mignon medallions over eggplant puree and a cream brandy sauce. They were all so good that we couldn't decide which one we liked the most. I felt the Solomillo de Buey was the best dish. My wife had the Pollo Asada for dinner. A half a chicken roasted and served with sauteed spinach, cheese risotto, white beans, hot sausage and a garlic sauce. The risotto was creamy and cheesy. The chicken was juicy and had lots of flavor. Our friend had the Paella Valenciana. Traditional spanish paella with rice, chicken, pork, spanish sausage, shrimp, mussels, and clams all blended with saffron. I can confidently say that it was the best paella I've ever tasted. Everything was cooked perfectly and the smokyness of the pork really brought it home for me. I had the Cazuela de Mariscos. Mediterranean Seafood Stew; salmon, white fish, bay scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, over roasted potatoes in a bell pepper sauce. The stew was so good that I had to take a moment of silence to savor every bite. After each bite, I loved the dish more and more. None of the flavors were muddled together. You could taste the flavor of the shrimp, the brinyness of the clams, the mussels were the perfect size and tenderness, and the fish was flaky and delicious. Then to dig deeper and find layers of thinly sliced potatoes hidden in the yellow pepper broth consumed me till there wasn't a drop left. Then I found myself scraping the sides of the bowl with a spoon to get every last morsel. Yes it was that delicious. I want more !!! After that amazing dinner we all agreed to call it a night. Then Marlon comes over to our table with a tray of their decadent desserts. Damn.....how could we resist? My wife had the chocolate torte. Our friend had the vanilla ice cream sandwiched in a puff pastry. And I had the Flan with a Grand Marnier. The flan was very good. Usually the caramel is too sweet and too thick. The custard of the flan light and the caramel was thin and slightly sweetened. It was perfect. I'm still thinking about the Seafood Stew. WOW !More

Four of us had dinner last night, our first visit. We walked away in perfectly contented, utterly delighted satisfaction. How often do you go to a restaurant and find perfection? It started with delicious spiced olives and hot, freshly baked bread, great blackberry margaritas. The...Brussels sprout salad special was incredibly flavored, tasty and artfully presented on a squared of fried risotto. The squash salad was equally delicious. The guys both ordered traditional paella, served burning hot in the pan. The flavors were perfect, it was not a mountain of rice, but lots of meat & seafood. I had the scallops in a lobster sauce, my friend had the shrimp w chickpea puree appetizer - both were fabulous. Cannot wait to return!!! Service was relaxed and attentive, atmosphere was typical Mediterranean. This was the find of the summer.More

We had a groupon to try this restaurant. It is a small restaurant with a separate bar area. The waitstaff are very pleasant. The food was served In A timely manner - and all was delivered well presented - on our plates. And was delish!!...The reason for the 4 rating was the tropical Rita we ordered - did not taste like it had any tequila in them at all All we tasted was pineapple and coconut - throughout the whole drink And for $9.00 each- they should have tasted like tequila at some point during our drinking it But anyway - we would go back again. Only we don’t order drinks next time - just soda. We had alcachofas salteadas ( artichokes-white wine sauce) Gambia’s al ajillo ( shrimp garlic sauce) sooo delish!! And Mediterranean ensalada ( eggplant artichokes peppers beans and shrimp ) and torta de cangrejo ( crab cakes in lobster sauce ) also delish!!!More

Located in a small strip plaza on the CT Route 10 in Southington, there are universal parking on premises, however it could be kind of crowded till the others merchants in the plaza close. (6pm) The venture has a separate Full Bar with counter seating,...a seating room with two areas and also an outdoor patio seating. Modern décor and appropriate music and lighting create a nice atmosphere. The service is totally friendly, kind and faster. The Wine selection is appropriate as well as the beer selection. The Menu is richer in sea food, but has meat and poultry too. Food is tasty and very well presented. As I had reviewed the Venture before (2 years ago), I could say they are very reliable. A place to have in mind when you’re in the mood for a taste of Spain.More
