We three were seated immediately. Our server presented herself shortly thereafter. She had the personality of a bulldog. Told us to read the chalk board, and the menu under the table cover. My order was last to be taken. I asked about the soup which...had ham in it. I mentioned that I was vegetarian. She just looked at me blankly. Then I ordered an egg salad toasted sandwich, (came with luke-warm fries) Then I asked about the salad which had bacon in it. My friends enjoyed their soup. Her cold turkey arrived (sent it back to heat it up). The turkey was dry, and not enough gravy to compensate, she left half of it. The battered chicken looked over battered to death to me, but I wasn't eating it. It seemed obvious that my egg salad (too sloppy, dripped everywhere) plate was waiting for after the soup to be delivered with my friends' orders. It wasn't until about then that I noticed in small print that a vegetarian menu was available for the asking. Why didn't the bulldog server volunteer the information? At the end a lovely friendly blond girl came and asked us if we needed anything else. Needless to say we will not return. The reason we drove 1.5 hours there was on someone's recommendation. We found the shop interesting and made purchases.More

I make pies, but truly Anna Mae's pie was the best peach pie that I have ever tasted. Loved the atmosphere there and of course I have to mention the chicken. It truly is worth a visit.

Loaded bikes at home (Guelph) this morning and drove with a friend to Elmira. There we started our ride on the G2G rail trail - destination Millbank and Anna Maes for lunch. Had their renowned broasted chicken, which was very good. The rest of the...meal however was quite a disappointment. The fries were okay/average but the green beans were absolutely terrible. I said to my partner when I got home that I couldn't imagine how anyone could possibly prepare beans any worse. I also thought to myself that in the countryside somewhere pretty near the restaurant there are surely growing some beautiful green beans, but this is what they do with them at Anna Maes .. they cook them to a near mush devoid of any flavour. Sad, is all I can say about it. But there's more .. the cheesecake for dessert that I so looked forward to was also a big disappointment. The raspberry fruit topping was far too gelatinous (think gluey, gloppy) and not very tasteful. The crust was hard, almost impenetrable with a fork, not at all resembling the moist and crumbly deliciousness that graham wafer could/ should be. As other reviewers have commented, absent from the "cheese" bun/roll was any hint or flavour of cheese. The food and the experience overall left me thinking this place has become a bit of a factory (or mill) churning people through. Perhaps it always has been (I've only been to it once before). The bike ride on the G2G trail was truly enjoyable, the countryside was lovely .. just wish it could have been complemented with a good country lunch.More

On our way home from Brussels (on our tour of 'European Capital cities' in Ontario), we planned on a late lunch at Anna Mae's. We were here many, many years ago and wanted to see it again. We hit the bakery first - came out...much poorer but it was hard to resist the rhubarb pie, butter tarts, and chocolate peanut butter squares. We put them in the cooler pack and headed for the restaurant. I had peeked in to see if it was 'safe' as we had not been INSIDE a restaurant since March. The tables were spaced, there were not many customers and it was 'airy'. The clientele seemed to be of were of similar age and wariness. Our waitress was helpful (although always hard to hear from a mask). The food was generous and served hot. I had the chicken dinner and my husband the roast beef. The pecan pie and cherry pie were delicious. The meal was very reasonably priced and the service excellent. My only concern was that any number of people could use the washroom at a time and the waitress only did a cursory wipe of the top of the table and not the chairs after clients had left. (we lysol wipe no matter where we are). Make this a stop - if we lived in the area we would do curbside regularly.More

We enjoy this restaurant....but we ordered takeout, (the Broasted chicken, on 2 separate occasions recently) .. .I regret to say , we were really underwhelmed . The chicken was very chewy and was hard to find much meat on the pieces we had The carrots...are sliced much too thin ....(in a food processor I’m assuming...) They still tasted good though , just the paper thin texture was odd...The dinner rolls, fries and potato were all yummy though! ....Breakfast is decent...Service is very pleasant..... Baking is always beyond scrumptious!!More

When you need chicken, the best spot to go is Anna Mae's. We usually drop in on the way home to Listowel from KW, but now they have only take-out available. We got the $57 dinner special for 15 pieces of chicken, a HUGE helping...of mashed potatoes and coleslaw and even includes a pie. But my wife wanted coconut cream and I wanted Dutch apple, so we had to add an extra pie to our pick-up order. Well, what else are you going to do??More

Been going here for a long time. Perhaps 5/7years. It used to be really really great with generous portions. Used to be 3 generous sized pieces of meat and with two scoops of mashed potatoes. The last few times have been disappointing though. While the...food is still delicious the portions are becoming lean We usually get the 3 piece dinner. Ordered 4 dinners as usual. Two dinners had one decent sized piece of meat and 2 small pieces with some meat. Just barely edible the two small pieces. One of the dinners had one decent piece and three tiny pieces. So small that when you bit into them they had little meat and whatever meat on the bone was dry. One of the dinners had even the larger piece hardly meat all bone. Used to be that all 3 pieces were good sized and meaty. The desserts were also very small, corner pieces. Hardly a few bites. Still delicious though. Twice now I’ve had this experience. We drive 40 minutes each way about 6 times a year we go. Not sure will be going back. The first time a couple of months ago it was sit down and I said something and they were gracious and exchanged it but this time was takeout so didn’t discover until arriving home. The quality of the taste if you do a good piece of meat is still excellent. But it seems to be the norm that corners are being cut.More

My wife and I arrived placed our name on the list. Restaurant was the busiest I have ever seen it. But it is so worth the wait. We waited 50 minutes before we got seated. But they were moving people through very fast there was...just that many people waiting to be seated. Both my wife and I ordered the meal deal which consists of a regular portion dinner in the picture that you see. Consists of soup or salad included. Consists of the main entree of your choice. And consists of one of the best homemade desserts but you've ever eaten. All of this for under $17. My wife ordered the broasted chicken with double vegetables no potatoes. I ordered the broasted chicken with mashed potatoes gravy on the mashed potatoes & fresh green beans in I large coleslaw on the side. The entire meals from the homemade potato ham soup out of this world fantastic. My wife had a Caesar salad with real bacon init and she said it was incredible. And the broasted chicken absolutely the most mouth-watering tasty succulent chicken I have ever eaten anywhere and their batter so good. Potatoes and vegetable awesome. And the deserts out-of-this-world fantastic Mennonite home baked. The dessert was so good and I ended up buying in their Bakery a rhubarb custard pie and also a package of their cheese bun rolls and my wife picked up a peanut butter chocolate squares but she said we're to die for. Absolutely highly recommended by myself her family friends and anyone that wants to experience true Mennonite fantastically cooked food and one awesome Bakery and crafts from pictures to quilts Etc that you can purchase there.More

I’m not sure if you can do takeout of other things than broasted chicken. There is a picnic area with tables there under the trees so your dog doesn’t need to go into the restaurant. We have had takeout burgers & fries in... More

There isn't a dress code, but consideration should be given to the faith based community that the restaurant is owned by and to which most customers belong . My two cents ;)!
