Went in with my son and 4 year old granddaughter who adores sashimi. The service was excellent; the sushi was fresh and beautifully presented and the price was affordable by any large city standard. We enjoyed it so much that 2 nights later we ordered takeout which was presented as beautifully as it was in the restaurant. Definitely a must... More

I went to eat sushi at Umi, and to my great surprise I found a chef I knew before.... Jose.... He used to be the Sushi Chef at Kamehachi, a restaurant that was located in downtown Chicago, on Ontario.....To my surprise he was here, he is the chef at Umi,and his food is just delicious! The ambiance at Umi is... More

We went there when it first opened and have been going back ever since! The food is delish, always cooked to perfection. I wish it had stayed BYOB 'though 'cause it made a big difference to the price!

Don't be discouraged by their location. The decor, the freshness of the food, and the service compares favorably with Streetville or Lincoln Park sushi places. Unfortunately, the prices are not much lower... The portions are on the smaller side but that's because there is less rice, and more of the good stuff! The beverage menu is short (1 beer!), and... This would be our third time going. We went early with our 6-year old. It's been good before but this time everything was extra amazing. Our server, Ben, was wonderful and always making sure everything was fine at our table. My husband and I ordered the veg tempura, and Sushi B plates. Our son had a noodle dish (I forget... More

Umi is one of my favorite sushi restaurants in Chicago for a number of reasons. Starting with the sushi, which is always fresh and presented tastefully, but this is matched by the service. My girlfriend and I feel the warmth and desire of the wait staff to be helpful while serving. The restaurant is part of a strip mall with... More

This place is great. It's in a strip mall next to a laundromat but the atmosphere inside is very nice. It's BYOB which is always great and the sushi is amazing! We love the Sushi Combo B, Nama, Umi, and Futo rolls. The service is great and they remember us and welcome us back. I'm really glad we found this... More

This place is a diamond with great tasting contemporary versions of maki rolls, fried oysters, noodle dishes, desserts, and of course sushi. Just bring your own bottle of Saki, beer, or wine and enjoy a high end experience of food and service for reasonable prices!

We are always hesitant on trying a new / different "sushi spot", especially with out of town guests visiting. We were really happy we tried UMI. The food, the service and the ambience were all top shelf. Freshly prepared sushi, great Asian entrees and everything reasonably priced UMI is our choice from now on. It's a BYOB restaurant which also... More
