If you want authentic lard-y mexican food you go to SW Chicago (Pilsen, Midway Airport area, etc.). But I'm never disappointed at Maravillas. We've tried some of everything - the meat is always well-cooked, the homemade tortillas are delicious and the beans and rice are well-done. The prices are pretty good and the service is always excellent. I don't love... More

This place really caught me by surprise. The food was not tasty at all. The rice and beans were very bland. The chicken fajitas tasted like they were marinated in Chinese food. I did not enjoy this place. Won't be back. The hot sauce and chips weren't even good. Very chunky with no sauce. Not to mention the prices were... More

Went to the restaurant on a Saturday night, where told that the wait would be 45 minutes but to return in 20 minutes as if you weren't there your table would be given away. As we sat on the bench beside the outside dinning it was plain to see there was many free tables for people to be sitting at.... More

The food is okay; service is okay; atmosphere is okay. Fine for a desperate need for Mexican food but only average.

this is a neighborhood staple, apparently, and being new in the neighborhood we needed to try it. the atmosphere is nothing special, could use an update, the bar area is in the back, which is nice for families that are looking to avoid that scene. The portions are plentiful, and the preparation solid. Salsa is hot, which is good. As... More

The good: the staff was extremely pleasant and helpful, the menu abundant. You can get a zillion varieties of burritos. Mine was huge and seemingly packed with every edible ingredient you could imagine. I was given a wide choice of tequila brands for my margarita. It was served unfrozen (with ice cubes), which is fine, and it was noticeably potent... More

Generous & Good. Food was better than expected. A small sitting area with a full service bar in the rear. The staff had a hard time keeping up w/take out and dine in. Food came in a timely fashion, but bartender was helping wait staff. Will recommend for Food

I was disappointed in the way that this restaurant charges extra for everything! First of all, they won't give you chips unless you spend $10. If you want a refill that costs $1. The amount of salsa they served with the chips was less than 2 tablespoons, not even enough to dip your chips into. They charge .15 for cheese... More

I had the nachos with meat, cheese, and lettuce. It was great but it cost me $8.00 and I think that's a bit much for something I could have made at home for about $5.00. But it was either that or their $11.00 dinners. They have a bar and the margaritas looked good. Maybe I'll try that next time, hopefully... More

Staying in Hyde Park

Neighbourhood Profile
Hyde Park
If you want to get a feel for quintessential South Side Chicago, you have to make a stop in Hyde Park, one of the city’s most popular neighborhoods. This historic area is home to two of the city’s most prominent cultural institutions, the Museum of Science and Industry and the University of Chicago. A stroll here will bring you past vintage and grand hotels converted into luxury apartment buildings; peaceful gardens, parks and green spaces; and ivy-adorned museums and other cultural institutions that speak to the city’s diversity and architectural beauty.
