This is the third and last time I will order here online. Every time I have been disappointed. Not only is the food pretty unappetizing (I have had better Thai food in smaller, more rural cities), but they also didn't even listen to my requests. My requests were simple, no silverware and extra spice, but if they can't even get that right, imagine if I had an allergy. Absolutely disappointed. They don't care about costumers, and they don't care about the Earth. If you want somewhere that cares about costumers, the environment, and that tastes good, find somewhere else, as they fail in all of these categories.

Ordered take out recently. Had been my favorite place in Hyde Park for many years. Now with the kitchen staff non-Thai, it just seems like the dishes are not up to par. Quite possibly the ingredients are not the same quality as before. My order was placed through FOOD APP and it seems that I got less quantity of the product. Although Chicago city ordinance specifies water to be served, when I asked for a small cup of H2O, the server refused. Diners, beware!

The food was bland looked terrible and was truly unappetizing. Others have mentioned the rest room was dirty and that was enough to keep me away. The server and owner were quite unpleasant. Definitely the last time I go there.

I was warned that this would be mediocre before we went (we had to find a restaurant in this area), but this was surprisingly even worse than my low expectations. The fresh spring rolls were simply unfried egg rolls with a thick flour wrapper instead of a rice flour wrap. The pad Thai (how can you screw up pad Thai) tasted like buffalo chicken. The masaman curry was ok. The shrimp tempura was all batter and greasy— like a bad onion ring left out overnight. Blech!

Our food was so mediocre. I asked for spicy and the noodles came with pizza-style pepper flakes. I asked about the chicken larb, o e of my favorites, and the waitress said they aren't authentic and we're so-so. Gosh. That's an honest heads up. Just bleh. I read there's another Thai place close by. Go to that one.

If you can order from this restaurant, it might be a better call, as many of my friends like their food. But the only times I've gone, the servers have been outright rude and dismissive, and the food wasn't worth it. Siam and Snail are both next door on the same block, making this not worth a visit.

We love Thai and are typically always pleased with any Thai restaurant, but sadly, this one left us disappointed. First impressions are important...my fork had dried food on it...had to get a new one from a nearby table. Have a daughter with peanut allergy and so are always cautious with Thai food. Ordered the Indonesian curry thinking it was peanut free...as it was not stated on the menu...even asked the server again when it was brought to the table...he said it was peanut free. Daughter took a bite and she instantly knew. A few minutes laster, the waitress came back and told us the dish DID contain peanuts. Too late! Night of Benadryl ahead. Did enjoy the coconut shrimp appetizer. Last straw was the bill...as a group of 5, not uncommon to have the gratuity pre-added, but 22%?! Outrageous! False information on the peanut contents and water refills do not warrant a 22% gratuity! Ever.

Stopped in for lunch while visiting my daughter. Food was fine but the service was poor as we waited some time and the food came out separately. I’m guessing there are better options available

I've been to this restaurant in April 2017 and December 2017. I had different dishes each time. Both were excellent. My family members had different dishes and everybody was extremely happy with their meal. I would highly recommend this as a go to spot for Thai food.

My friends and I visited THAI 55th restaurant. Their PadThai and other entrees was very good. It was inexpensive and the servings were ample. The service was great. The appetizers( we had crab rangoon) needed some working on, thats why I marked the ratings down. but all in all we had a great meal. It was a small restaurant but light and airy. The decor was spare with beautiful prints on the wall. If your'e in the mood for Thai food the Thai 55th restaurant is a great place to visit.

We ordered several take out dishes. The rice was inedible --- hard and dry as though it had been sitting out for hours, which is strange because we were there at 12:45pm. Also, unlike in past years, there were no customers in the place. The basil eggplant was watery and tasteless. The beef panang had almost no beef, and was not at all spicy. The appetizers were bland. The prices were somewhat higher than average for a Thai restaurant. When we are in Hyde Park again, we will NOT be dining here.

Very clean and bright place, when compared with the Korean restaurant next door, went there for a girls night of our office, but I did not quite like the taste, a bit too much salt and oil for me.

Good service and pretty good Thai food. The Green Curry with chicken was as good as any other Thai restaurant I have been too, including some of the finer Thai restaurants in NYC like Jaiya Thai and SriPraPhai, just to mention a few. The shrimp Pad Wunsen dish had a very delicate flavor to it; this dish was full of aroma. The delicate vermicelli noodles were very tasty. I was a little disappointed with the Pad Thai noodle dish. The noodles were bland and could have been made more flavorful. The deep-fried whole red snapper was absolutely delicious with the sweet and sour sauce. I couldn't have asked for a better prepared dish of seafood than the deep-fried red snapper fish. My favorite soup, the spicy Tom Yum Goong, was a bit of a disappointment. The soup itself was too much on the acidic side even though it was quite spicy. I think the soup could have used a little less lime juice and more flavor in the broth.

I ate Thai 55 for lunch (carry out) and the food was very good. I had lunch consisting of cashew chicken with fried rice, and some crab Rangoon. The portion was a good size, it was reasonably priced, and was very tasty. Sometimes Thai food can be covered with too many thick sauces, but that is not the case here. Definitely recommended!!
