The place is a bit more of a Dive than I expected. I had read it was small, but it really is VERY small (seats for maybe 20 ??). The sandwich was very good. Everyone at our table was satisfied. Great stop if you want something quick (5mins to get your food) and then head back out.

Stopped in with my brother about a week ago for a quick bite. Both of us have many, many years of enjoying Italian beef, combos, etc, all over the city and some suburbs. For both of us, this was the worst we've had, ever. The grim shreds of beef had little flavor, and seemed like it had been held for... More

The best beef in Chicago is at Al's Beef. Great french fries, Italian sausage and for a real treat, get a dipped combo sausage and beef with sweet and hot. Not quite the ambiance of the original Taylor street location but the food is just as great.

Another chain that we had to visit while we were here. Sure you can go to a nice steak house and drop $75 a person but really you can do that in any large city. The Italian beef sandwich was great. You can have it dry with a small amount of gravy or go hog wild and have it dipped... More

A must stop on the way out of town after a spring break visit. We turned early and ended up on the expressway. No fear, we got off and circled back. It was everything I dreamt of. Somehow the bread stands up after the dip. I went hot with mine and loved every bite. The fries rocked too! We've tried... More

I had the Italian beef sandwich with sweet peppers and provolone dry. It was very good. My wife and oldest daughter had the Italian beef wet and they both liked it. My two youngest daughters had hotdogs. This place is very small with limited seating but if you want a true taste of Chicago then stop in. They have pictures... More

A must-eat if you are in Chicago. Nothing fancy but great beef and fries. Several locations. I got the beef and sausage, and would have preferred just the beef. Love beef!

Al's Beef is our first stop when visiting Chicago. Friendly staff, fabulous Italian beef, and try a tamale! Best in town.

Place is open until midnight during the week and 3 am weekends with free parking on site which makes it ideal for a quick late diner or snack. Their classic shaved beef and Italian sausage sandwich is a must (and big) and their Chicago style hoy dogs are also good. It's relative expensive given what you have, but it's different... More

We came here after giving up on Portillo's because of the crazy long queue full of drunk people. Small place, probably less than 20 seats. You will need to wait for the table. I ordered 2 hotdogs with drinks and chips. The hotdogs themselves were good, nice soft bun, flavourful dog. Chips were a bit greasy to my taste. My... More
