The meals we all had were great as usual, the service was spot on, the atmosphere is cozy and very homey. Al's is the place where we are able to purchase the best malts anywhere. In addition, the owners always come over and greet us when we visit the restaurant.

But not so delicious for lunch. Go for dinner and try the trout or rib eye. Both out if this world. Milk shakes equally good.

The service is excellent along with the malts, I've been going to Al's ever since I moved to Elgin. Bruschetta sandwich is top notch.

Used to go here with business associates for an indulgent casual lunch (attentive service, good food, accompanied by a terrific Peppermint Milk Shake with Hot Fudge or some other delight). As someone who appreciates non-cookie-cutter locales, the decor here with church pew seats, stained glass, soda jerk marble counter, etc, really fits the bill. Generally I am now here with... More

Al's Cafe is one of those places that you walk into and don't expect much. Their food is awesome and the milkshakes are to die for. I love this place! Will definitely go back.

We were returning home after a trip to Chicago & stopped off of the interstate by Elgin Il.for lunch and we were so pleased!!! We were able to be seated outdoors. They had a nice menu and we ended up ordering their Manhattan Tuna served w/kettle chips---It was fantastic!!! It was served on pumpernickel bread w/avocado ,very tasty! The location... More

Traveling back from Chicago and happened to come across this on Google. Outdoor dining was lovely. Beautiful late summer weather. Wonderful food. Every time plates were delivered to tables we were eyeballing what they got and it all looked fabulous. Ordered the Tuna open face sandwich on pumpernikel bread. To die for! Lots of kettle chips with it. Quaint little... More

It was a nice day so we sat outside which was great. We were a party of three that orders three malts, which were top notch. My only complaint would be slow malt arrival. After we ordered I thought they had to milk the cow for the ice cream.

The restaurant and area were very busy the day my friends and I decided to grab a bite for lunch, so my expectations were quite low at the start. However, the service was quick and pleasant; the food was great too. Our server was excellent, accommodating and easy on the eyes for the four women he served that busy day!
