Visiting relatives in the Dorset area we asked them to choose the best restaurant in the area and they did well to pick the KING JOHN Inn. Although a little distance away it was well worth the drive. The inn situated on a small lane...More

Nice location, but very expensive. To be charged £3 for a soda water is a bit of a rip off to be honest... Other soft drinks were very overpriced as well. Staff was friendly though and nice setting and beer garden.

Popped here for lunch on the day we moved in to the area. Very attractive place - gorgeous decor. You feel like you are in a place where the locals are not without a bob or two! Friendly ladies behind the bar. All service was...More

You can eat out or in and the terraced garden is lovely. There is a lot of car parking too. The staff were very friendly and helpful. All the icecream is homemade and delicious. The portions are quite big too.

When we are in the area we always return to the King John which has become a favourite. I am very boring and always seem to order the same thing, the soufflé which is delicious. My friends had hake and fish & chips and both...More

This, I think was my fourth or fifth visit to the King John over recent years. The last outing had not been great, but apologies had been made for the shortage of staff in the kitchen that evening, so it seemed like a good idea...More

This is a lovely, well-run inn with an excellent menu. There were five of us and we all had a very good lunch. Because one of us was disabled we were unable to eat in the garden as it is steeply sloped. So, because the...More

My daughter and I enjoyed a Saturday evening supper here. My daughter's chicken satay starter was delicious but my pigeon salad was rather dry and tough with dull leaves. My main course soufflé was delicious but came with another helping of the same old leaves!...More

Took the family for Sunday lunch. 4 of us arrived at 2pm as per our booking. They were so flat out with lots of tables outside, they just couldn't cope. It was too slow. We had to chase everything. The two waitresses were very nice...More

Description
Situated in the scenic village of Tollard Royal in rural Wiltshire, The King John Inn is a Victorian and award-wining country inn offering beautiful accommodation, delicious food and a warm, friendly service. Our Head Chef is an accomplished fisherman, bakes his own bread, makes his own cheese and still finds time to get up early and catch local game when in season so you can expect that every plate on the King John menu is as fresh as it can be and is expertly crafted with a passion for the local countryside. We are proud to have recently received 1 Rosette from the AA. In summer, our terraced garden is the perfect place to dine alfresco while watching the chefs in action in their Victorian-inspired outdoor kitchen. In winter, relax near our roaring-log fires in our open plan pub or in the informal restaurant. The bar provides an ever-changing selection of imported drafts and local beers as well as an extensive wine list. Our eight en-suite bedrooms combine modern comfort with rustic elegance and feature luxurious linen, Nespresso machines, flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi, direct dial phones and luxurious toiletries. Salisbury and its cathedral are only a 30 minute drive away whilst the beautiful hillside town of Shaftesbury is only 20 minutes. The King John Inn also sits within a 5-minute walk of the historic Rushmore Park, an area of lawn and open woodland home to the Rushmore Golf Club.
