My friend and I were going to eat lunch at another restaurant but unfortunately it was not open yet. So, we decided to have lunch at Shapiro's. Wow, a New York style deli very close to downtown Indianapolis. I had the Rueben and my friend had the roast beef sandwich. They were both piled high with meat between some absolutely... More

Great place for lunch. Generous helpings. If you are a continuous visitor, you will see many of the same people each time. Here you've got to try the carrot cake but you may need to take it home for later after you eat your meal.

This is probably the best deli in Indy, and a real rival to most other cities (including NYC). The facility is old school cafeteria/deli; no frills, just places to sit and enjoy excellent food. Our favorite is still the New York pastrami Reuben; massive in size and taste. The rye bread is great; and the pastrami is second to none,... More

My husband got the reuben from here and though it was expensive, it was massive! He raved about it the whole time he was eating it. Our friend got the tuna sandwich, which was pretty good, and key lime pie, which he said was very good. It's cafeteria style when you get in and they have plenty of seating. There... More

I eat here every time in am passing through Indianapolis. The food is amazing. Whether it's a great deli sandwich or a full hot meal with all the side, this is about as good as food gets. There's tons of seating for large groups and the cafeteria style service means you get your food FAST!

Shapiro's is an institution! Once you experience it, you'll definitely go back--repeatedly. The food is consistently delicious and always plentiful. The hard part is deciding what to eat. You'll never leave hungry, and you'll probably want to stop at the bakery on your way out. A party isn't complete without one of their carrot cakes.

This cafeteria-style deli is definitely a throwback! There's a huge selection of food, ready to serve and lots of tempting desserts. The pastrami sandwich on rye is the closest you'll get to a New York deli in Indy. Beware, their sandwiches are huge so bring a friend. If you like lox and bagels, this is the place to go.
