We stayed at the Loft Suites here at the Quarterdeck Resort so we ate twice at the grill. We had a lovely dinner there in the evening and breakfast the next morning. The dinner was great. We shared the Calamari, and it was literally the best I have ever had, and I have sampled Calamari from all over the world from China, Spain, Portugal to South Beach, Florida, so I an expert on this. It really was cooked perfectly and their sauce was lovely. I then had the steak which was cooked very well, but was not the best steak I have had because it was a bit tough and had a lot of tough bits (Poor butchering but chef should have fixed it instead of just serving it like that). The steak was very tasty however, so I did not mind so much. My wife's meal was equally good. Service was a bit odd in that it seemed that servers were waiting on tables from every section of the large restaurant, outside, upstairs and on the entire main floor. Not the most efficient plan and it was hard to get the server's attention because he was ofter far away. Our server was friendly and did a good job. He was very knowledgable about the menu. Tables were well spaced for COVID-19 seating and all staff wore masks.

We visited the Quarterdeck Grill to celebrate my mother‘s 92nd birthday. She lives in the area, where the quarter deck has a reputation as a rather upscale place. I had last visited the quarterdeck restaurant over 20 years ago, and it was a charming rustic place with the waves breaking on the rocks just outside. This place was quite different. It has a bright, airy decor, which is pleasant, though not what I expected. The outside deck looks like a wonderful place to dine on a warm day. The views are spectacular. The service and food however, were not spectacular. Who Our waiter spent a lot of his time polishing silverware within a few feet of our table. He was quite attentive when we first arrived, but then seem to almost forget about us later in the meal. The waiters were both male, wearing shorts which exposed hairy, rather unattractive legs. Long pants would’ve looked much more professional. He never checked back to refill our water until the desert course. Just didn’t pay very much attention to us at all, and the restaurant was hardly crowded. He seemed to have one more table in addition To our party of three. My mother ordered fish and chips, which consisted of two pieces of battered fish, a large portion of french fries, and a tiny dish of coleslaw. It is exactly the same as what we usually get at a much cheaper takeout grill. I had seared haddock over rice with vegetables and a ginger purée. The puree was fabulous, but there was only about a tablespoon of it on the plate. I think the rice was reheated, and the vegetables were just carrots and potatoes, which also tasted reheated. The haddock was good, But it didn’t have much of a seer on it. My daughter ordered a Caesar salad with chicken. It was overdressed and limp. We did not order any drinks, but we did have two desserts. Our bill was $106. We decided next time we wanted to enjoy the gorgeous view, we would just come for coffee and dessert. The food and the service were just not worth what we paid.

If it weren’t for the stunning view, this place would have gotten a below average review. There’s no arguing that the simple decor combined with a stunning view is the selling feature of this establishment. The food is expensive and not worth the price. I have no problem paying for a good meal but that’s not the case here. I would advise that if you want to enjoy the view and eat here then something from the lighter fare part of the menu, such as a sandwich or burger, would probably be the best choice. During our visit, they were out of lobster so no lobster tail or lobster roll. Two of our party ordered steak, thin and not cooked to the request. A couple of us had Chicken Kiev which was more like a deeply fried, crunchy chicken breast. It seemed to be missing that spurt of melted butter and garlic that I would have expected. Service was friendly but getting our meals seemed to take a while. Again, the view is the redeeming feature. The Quarterdeck needs to step it up. Tourists shouldn’t be taken and as a now-local, I know there are so many better places to dine. Most of our party last night said they were done with this spot.

We book a reservation weeks in advance for 14 people when we arrived we were seated in what i would call the attic. The view of the beach was nice but a very plain white room not even one picture on the walls. The bartender was our server by himself. I'm sure he had other duties and that's why we only saw him every 15 to 20 minutes. It took an hour to get everyone a drink. Most of us were finished eating when the last 4 meals arrived two hours after being seated. Very disappointed.

This was our third visit to the Quarterdeck grill and we were disappointed with one menu item and the way in which it was dealt with. We ordered a Caesar salad with seafood and the menu did not indicate that it included bacon. When it arrived we noticed it included bacon which we do not eat, the waitress offered to check if it could be returned. We felt a certain responsibility as we had not checked there would be bacon which was not listed as being in the salad. We were disappointed to hear that the kitchen manager did not extend the courtesy to come and talk to us but rather pass a flippant comment to the waitress. We have to question the managers ability to actually deal with any issues that may occur when he cannot deal with customers but let’s the staff deal with issues that occur. The kitchen manager is letting the team down and tarnishing the reputation of the restaurant.

My dining experience last night at the Quarterdeck Grill was disappointing and below expectations. This was based on the following: - The menu was conventional and uninspiring. There was only one vegetarian option (pasta). - My wife’s main course dish arrived with the pasta gummy and undercooked. Upon notifying the server, an apology was provided but there was no offer of a replacement dish or substitution. - This meal was a birthday celebration for my wife. I had called the restaurant the day before to provide this information and to request a candle with her dessert. There was no candle. While the building and location are stunning, the food and service was not. I will not be returning.

As a visitor to Nova Scotia and just out of self isolation I was looking forward to my evening with my friends, unfortunately it was not a pleasant experience for me food wise. I cannot fault the setting and the company, but I can fault the price of my entree which certainly was not worth the amount I paid of $29.00 for the Baked Seafood Medley. One would expect a generous selection of seafood, sadly it contained barely 2 scallops, 3 small shrimps along with a tiny tip of a lobster claw. Accompanying this dish was a rice pillaf with cut up carrots which was luke warm. I was not impressed and upon reflection should have ordered their fish and chips as this certainly looked more appetizing.

It was magical watching the surf roll onto the beach. From our vantage point behind the glass, it was difficult not to stare as the tide climbed higher and higher towards us. But it was the food that next took our interest. Appetizers, especially good ones, foretell what the entrees have in store. We were a family and extended family of ten and we wanted to try it all. Coconut shrimp, Calamari, Garlic Buns, Scallops in a Blueberry sauce all disappeared in a hurry. And they were just "starters". But they were enough to give us insight into what more was on offing. Then it was the Cocktails we raved over; the ones with and without added liquor, we had to sample several. Stuffed lobster tail and Seafood Medley were popular along with several salads that couldn't be missed. A couple of us couldn't stuff down desert but stared longingly at those who could, and did. Because of Covid-19 and knowing our crowd hadn't seen each other in months, the staff slowed down the service so we could visit, bringing out our dishes in spurts which we were thankful for (except for the two boys who found the waiting arduous...lol). After 2hrs of wining and dining, we waddled out to our vehicles full of good food and good humour. Between the view of this vast beach and the culinary delight of the Quarterdeck Grill, we were more than satisfied.

I’m genuinely sad to write this review. The Quarterdeck was once the crown jewel of the dining scene on the South Shore of NS. From the melt in your mouth biscuits to the amazing seafood chowder to the Neptune Caesar Salad, everything was perfect and you longed to return. That is no longer the case. The formerly complimentary biscuits are now $7 and taste like cold cardboard. My $30 scallop entry (with 5 minuscule scallops) was both unappetizing and unappealing. My sons pasta was the $0.89 boxed variety and tough/cold. All a shame, as it it’s in the shadow of its former glory. Although, perhaps, more Instagramable, it’s not worth a visit for the inflated prices and subpar food. A shame.

Went to the Quarterdeck Grill last evening for dinner. I grew up in the area and now visit in the summers and have seen many changes and renovations to the restaurant and property the over the past 40 years. I had not been to this new building so we planned for a nice dinner. I booked the table through the restaurant's online reservation system and could get a table at 5:15 or 8:00 pm, no other times were available which I assumed was because it was busy on a Friday night. However when we left after our meal around 6:30 the restaurant was half empty. The view of the beach is very nice, however the interior is lackluster. And it didn't get any better... Our waitress was dressed in a black t-shirt and shorts, not what I would expect at a 4 star restaurant. The calamari appetizer was okay, however the main course was dreadful. I had the scallops with roast potatoes and veggies ($39). The scallops were cooked properly but were lukewarm at best. The roast potatoes were so overcooked that they were difficult to get a knife through. I am sure they were recooked. The veggies had clearly sat under a heat lamp for some time. Other than the scallops the meal was inedible, so the waitress only charged us for a scallop appetizer. My husband had the burger and fries, which were overcooked and also inedible. And a mediocre glass of wine was $18. This was an expensive disappointment which I would not recommend. They have spent a lot of money building up this "resort" over the last few decades but they need to invest more time and attention in the restaurant because they have really lost their way when it comes to dining. I can't imagine staying in one of their expensive rooms (which from reviews appear to also be over-rated and not worth the expense) and this being the only on site restaurant. If I could give this restaurant experience a zero star rating I would. I will go to White Point Resort next time.

I had been going to the Quarter Deck for over 25 years as a special getaway where the atmosphere was welcoming and uniquely Sou' west Nova Scotia. Always an unassuming and comfortable 5 star dining experience. t was simple and FANTASTIC. The staff were always top notch attentive servers with a knowledge and love the area, and the seafood dependable and delectable with prices that were reasonable with the fluctuations of market price. Locals and tourists never minded paying the extra costs due to the whole package of the view, the service and the food. Fast forward to Summer 2022.... Atmosphere sterile and cold with as many tables as they can cram you in, similar to a plane flight. The place was loud and without any ambience... Overpriced everything! Brutal service and hospitality, with no less than 5 servers hanging out at the bar while I fetched my own drinks to accompany our dinner. We felt lime we were intruding on their time. I have never written a review before on anything, but was absolutely shocked at the state of this once loved treasures. If you are dining on the South shore, there are no less than 20 restaurants to pick over the QD. the new and "improved" Quarterdeck. I sent a few people there not realizing, and the verdict was unanimous. No returns.

We visited the Quarterdeck for the first time and loved it! From the gorgeous location to the fabulous food it was a very special meal. The staff was excellent and the decor is impressive. We had coconut shrimp for a starter and the stuffed lobster tails for the main. Dessert was the flourless chocolate torte with caramel sauce, pecan crumble, vanilla ice cream, and fresh berries! MmmMmmm! Yum! We did not leave hungry! And we can’t wait to return to this gem !

There is a separate listing for the Quarterdeck Resort and this review is just for the restaurant. I wouldn’t call this fine dining but it is certainly high end.The menu is fairly limited but that seems to be the norm during the pandemic. 6/8 dinner items were seafood. We are not seafood people so I had the steak and my wife had the chicken Kiev. Both were delicious. We also had breakfast there and it was well done and hearty. But again, limited dishes. My only beef with breakfast is that it doesn’t start until 9:00 AM, which is late for anyone getting up early to go anywhere. Decor is a nautical theme and is okay. The main attraction is the great view of the ocean and the Summerville Beach. There was only a couple tables open on the outdoor patio even though it was a lovely evening/morning. Definitely get a window seat, which was the majority of available tables anyway. They aren’t taking reservations this time of year which is a shame because it was fairly busy there. Service was very attentive and friendly. There is nothing else in the neighbourhood other that the resort and Summerville Beach which is gorgeous.

My wife wanted to go here mainly because she loves lobster and in the not too distant past she got a lobster roll that was fantastic with the roll overflowing with tasty well portioned lobster. So she ordered it this time and what arrived was not a nice big roll but rather a rather sad looking lobster burger with not nearly as much lobster in the past but still have a $34 price for it. The most expensive lobster roll ever and definitely not even close to what was expected. The waiter still in shorts and tee shirt and not in line with what people expect from a presumed higher end restaurant. We will not return and if you are going there don’t order the lobster roll (burger) as you will be very disappointed!!!

My wife and I chose the Quarterdeck Grill to celebrate our 56th anniversary because we had eaten there before, on several occasions, and were always most pleased with everything. There is a wonderful selection on the menu, the service and general atmosphere are excellent, and the food is probably the best on the South Shore. We highly recommend this restaurant to anybody looking for a #1 place to dine. It's worth driving a few extra miles to visit The Quarterdeck Grill.
