This is a tremendous place to eat. Do not buy the play-with-dinner package, though -- there is a $5 coupon on the back of your play ticket that applies to a $25 purchase at the restaurant ($14 each for buffet, $17 each for family-style; we got latter). Excellent food and service!

Blue Gate now has a buffet that we enjoyed today! It cost $13 for adults, a little less for children. Their main courses of ham, roast beef and chicken were all present. They serve their signature loaf of bread. Side dishes included Mac & cheese, mashed potatoes, potato wedges, dressing, and noodles. There was a salad bar on one end... More

Typical Amish style restaurant. Food was all very good. We only did the buffet but enjoyed that they had a few new dishes. They did have other options, order or family style. We felt the buffet was the best value.Very clean. Best restrooms I've seen in awhile. Theater was also connected in the same building. Smaller production show, but good.... More

We ate lunch here right around noon on a busy Tuesday, but were seated within 10 minutes for the buffet section of the restaurant. Wait times might be longer for the menu section. The selection was good, service was prompt and efficient. Fresh bread was brought to our table. Desserts were included. We used the $5 off $25 or more... More

What a great selection of food! The homemade noodles are to die for. I was pleased with the variety of foods that were given. I will definitely eat here again and I highly recommend it to friends. The service was exemplary. Never once did we have to ask for refills on drinks nor did we have to wait for dishes... More

We really enjoy this restaurant, and highly recommend it! The food is tasty and served with generous proportions. The restaurant does offer a buffet, but we always eat off the menu, since the proportions are large, and we usually split a meal and are satisfied. This is a very convenient place to eat, if you are taking in the concert... More

I joke with my wife that if I'm fortunate enough to pick my last meal, this will be one of my final options! I absolutely LOVE the Roast/Smoked Ham. It's fall apart, melt in your mouth delicious. I also love the mashed & gravy and the chicken noodles. This is a must-visit place to eat some incredible down-home cooking!

The food was delicious. I loved the dessert bar. I especially enjoyed the "Cherries on a Cloud". (That is Angel food, whipped cream with cherries on top.) Nice and light.

I like to take out of town guests to the Blue Gate for a unique eating experience. The chicken is always good!

We had lunch upstairs. The food was excellent! The following evening, we tried the buffet dinner downstairs. Everything we tried was delicious! I highly recommend the Blue Gate!

When the newly built Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery opened it doors on August 4th, 2001 in Shipshewana, the entire town was invited over for dinner. As one of Indiana's largest restaurants, the Blue Gate comfortably seats 600 (more than the town's population). Built to reflect the surrounding community, the Blue Gate resembles a rambling white farmhouse, similar to those that dot the surrounding Amish coutnryside. An award winning restaurant serving a world famous Family-style meal that features pressure fried chicken and 3 other meats, real mashed potatoes, Amish noodles, plus lots of other sides and 25 varieties of pies to choose from
