Was in Louisville for a concert and wanted to explore a new place to eat and the reviews here on TA made me curious about Check's. The place was busy and obviously very popular. Having scouted out the menu ahead of time, my son got the Reuben and I opted for the fish sandwich, both with fries, and we shared... More

I used to live in the neighborhood and always loved Check's. I still go back and it's just as good as it's always been. Great lunch and comfort dinner food. I always get the fish. It's breaded and comes with two really big pieces. I also love the German potato salad. Everyone raves about the chili and it's good, but... More

Fast, friendly service. It's a local legend that used to house A & P Grocery since 1944. Very laid back atmosphere with your basic bar scene. Cold beer and lots of fried food. The rolled oysters were very good and the fish sandwich was outstanding. I loved the tartar sauce and it was plentiful. Good creamy coleslaw and seasoned fries.... More

This place has been around for years and has expanded in recent years. It is still a go to location when you visit Germantown. You get your monies worth when you visit Checks. You won't get a lot of fancy food, but the bowl of chili and dressed cheeseburger are still good eats!

For what it is (hole in the wall, neighborhood bar) it was fantastic. Cheap, tasty, laid back. I had chili and a bologna sandwich, my friend had the reuben. The reuben was salty as can be so points off on that. The chili was solid. A little weird in that you order at the bar, then get a seat. Everyone... More

We opted for something local, and the reviews were good so we found it. It was a busy Friday evening. You stand in line and order, pay and the food comes out later. Much later. I loved the décor of the place and how friendly the people were, but the food was just bland and nothing at all special. My... More

I haven't had the food there in a while because it was so inconsistent, but it seems to have really improved

We arrived around 6p and there were several empty tables. The bar is small. By the time we left at 7:30-8p, the place was packed!! Order at the bar, server will bring it to your table as he/she yells your name. Reasonably priced. My cousins got their fish, which looked delicious. I had grilled chicken with a side salad. All... The fried oysters were great! We also had 2 kids meals... A triple decker p and j and the chicken tenders. The adults had the fish and the chicken wings (spicy is good). Nice atmosphere and a popular place for the locals. Very friendly staff. I ate the chef's salad without the meat.

Lots of menu options that are good and affordable. Cozy atmosphere and friendly staff. Obviously this is a favorite of many locals as indicated by the line of people out the door when we stopped in for lunch. Fast, friendly service and in spite of the long line, they keep the orders coming fairly quickly. Nothing on the menu over... More
