The first time we came here I thought I had tasted heaven on a fork. Three years ago the service was sad but the food was still amazing. This time we came all the way from Toronto with great expectations, and we have left heartbroken and feeling robbed. The food was not even mediocre. I should have read the recent... More

We arrived at 8:15 am on a Saturday morning, bypassing the breakfast at our hotel in hopes of getting a promised Cajun styled breakfast along with some awesome zydeco music. The place was packed. We paid the $5.00 cover charge per person and found a place to sit at a table with another family. Music was great! We ordered coffee... More

a local review. I have been a dozen times and I bring all out of town guests. a great atmosphere! great tasting food! ..... whenever it arrives. don't come hungry if you do the zydeco breakfast. have a pre-breakfast before you wait for your table. spend your wait time at the antique shops. then after your seated, order right away!... Sad to say, my girlfriend and I had the worst dining experience at Cafe des Amis, in Breaux Bridge, La., at lunch on Friday, November 18, 2016. We knew something was wrong, when we walked in to an empty restaurant. The waitress/hostess/cook, took our food order before telling us that they lost their liquor license and therefore bloody Mary's were... More

Last year my cousin and I had a wonderful experience at this cafe. This year my visit with family was a let down. They were out of many of the items on the main menu and the daily special was not that appealing, considering the hot temperature of the day. ( Chicken and dumplings on a 94 degree day.)

I went there visiting from overseas from Australia and my friend and I had lunch on Tuesday 9th November. There was ONE chef and ONE waitress (both of whom I feel sorry for, especially the waitress) for a relatively busy place. Service per customer averaged maybe 1.5-2hrs, the food was average, but took waaay too long to come out. Naturally... More

Yep you read that right. There is a cover charge to get into Cafe Des Amis if you go on a Saturday morning (and that is when you want to go.) Be prepared to wait in line to get in and enjoy the live Zydeco band, great Bloody Mary's and eat at communal tables.

A breakfast retreat that cannot be beat. Must do if in Breaux Bridge. Great live band, foot stomping music. Friendly wait staff.

We were there early on Sunday morning....no reason for the servers not to be smiling and welcoming....ours weren't. Coffee tasted like it was left over from yesterday....as did the water, really stale. I had the Couche Couche....I wanted to try something local....I asked the grumpy waitress if it was like porridge...she didn't even really answer, just shrugged like she didn't... More

Following advice, we drove here from Lafayette, LA. I was surprised to find a $5 cover charge for breakfast, but very pleased that we decided to pay it and go in. The music (from Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners) was wonderful and the whole place was really throbbing! Some excellent dancing going on, from young and old. Worth the... More

I travel a lot, have been stopping in Breaux Bridge over the past 11 years in route to Lafayette and or Baton Rouge, to enjoy dining at Cafe Des Amis on Sat Mornings as well as the Cajun music, and dancing.. I have told so many people about Cafe Des Amis & promoted what use to be ( in my opinion) a delicious dining experience... The food was always the bomb & plentiful. Today however, I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a dining experience.. And drove 3 1/2 hours for it.

I ordered the omlet au graten, with the andoulli sausage & cheese grits & a biscuit. I'm sorry to say in rating what was served, I would have to honestly give it a (zero)... The omlet was flat and over cooked until it was crusty,, and sorry to say, a piece of cheese slapped in the middle of it & tasteless to boot,, does not suffice for a good omlet my friend..... It was so pitiful, I think if it could have, it would've appologised to me for being served... The grits were also tasteless and cold, i had to ask the waitress to take them back and warm them up in the ( microwave).. The biscuit,,, well, , if your cook is making them from scratch, I hate to say this too, but he or she needs a different profession, because it's "really hard" (no pun intended) but true, to make a bad biscuit...

As far as the portions,, hummmm, maybe if you start serving on smaller plates it won't seem quite such an embarrassing presentation..

I hope you can pull a rabbit out of a hat and stay in business.. But judging from the experience I had today, it may take some prayer as well.

Disapointed Louisiana Lady
