A breakfast retreat that cannot be beat. Must do if in Breaux Bridge. Great live band, foot stomping music. Friendly wait staff.

We were there early on Sunday morning....no reason for the servers not to be smiling and welcoming....ours weren't. Coffee tasted like it was left over from yesterday....as did the water, really stale. I had the Couche Couche....I wanted to try something local....I asked the grumpy waitress if it was like porridge...she didn't even really answer, just shrugged like she didn't... More
Following advice, we drove here from Lafayette, LA. I was surprised to find a $5 cover charge for breakfast, but very pleased that we decided to pay it and go in. The music (from Leroy Thomas and the Zydeco Roadrunners) was wonderful and the whole place was really throbbing! Some excellent dancing going on, from young and old. Worth the... More
I should have know when we waited 2-3 min with only 2 tables occupied that things were not going to be good. One of the staff just looked at us and moved on. Finally someone sat us, we were the third table in the cafe. Then we waited on drinks. Then we waited on food. I ordered Eggplant Wheels. There... More
This was our second visit to Cafe Des Amis. Both times we went for the music and breakfast. Both times we loved the music and found the food mediocre. We didn't care that much, however, because the atmosphere is so much fun. Service was sketchy, but the servers were very busy and apologetic. If we come to the area again,... More
Was looking for a place to have breakfast. Stumble on this place, didn't look like much but decided to try it. It was a Saturday morning and they were charging $5.00 to get in. I asked why, they said to pay the band. Went in and was surprised as to the crowd. The band was very good. Food was OK... More
Saturday morning, bloody mary's or mimosas, great breakfast dishes, and Zydeco music and dancing. Can't start a day any better if you enjoy those things!!! LOVED IT!!!!
First let me say I have been a fan of Cafe' Des Amis since the late 90's. Always great food and a fun time. We often took out of town visitors there for a great meal in an interesting place. Sadly that is no more. Oh, the sign is still up and the door open but the restaurant is not... More
Went for the Zydeco breakfast so got up early to be at the front of the queue, only there wasn't much of a queue which we put down to the wrong date being on their website. Chatted to some lovely Louisiana people while waiting for the cafe to open, and sat with one group once inside. The breakfast & mimosa's... More
We visited in the evening so missed the zydeco music. But I loved the history of the place with an elevator shaft to bring down caskets made upstairs. Now it is part of the hostess desk. Bar from Lafayette and local artists artwork. Food was interesting and fun to try cajun. I can't say that crawfish is my taste but... More

I travel a lot, have been stopping in Breaux Bridge over the past 11 years in route to Lafayette and or Baton Rouge, to enjoy dining at Cafe Des Amis on Sat Mornings as well as the Cajun music, and dancing.. I have told so many people about Cafe Des Amis & promoted what use to be ( in my opinion) a delicious dining experience... The food was always the bomb & plentiful. Today however, I don't think I've ever been so disappointed in a dining experience.. And drove 3 1/2 hours for it.
I ordered the omlet au graten, with the andoulli sausage & cheese grits & a biscuit. I'm sorry to say in rating what was served, I would have to honestly give it a (zero)... The omlet was flat and over cooked until it was crusty,, and sorry to say, a piece of cheese slapped in the middle of it & tasteless to boot,, does not suffice for a good omlet my friend..... It was so pitiful, I think if it could have, it would've appologised to me for being served... The grits were also tasteless and cold, i had to ask the waitress to take them back and warm them up in the ( microwave).. The biscuit,,, well, , if your cook is making them from scratch, I hate to say this too, but he or she needs a different profession, because it's "really hard" (no pun intended) but true, to make a bad biscuit...
As far as the portions,, hummmm, maybe if you start serving on smaller plates it won't seem quite such an embarrassing presentation..
I hope you can pull a rabbit out of a hat and stay in business.. But judging from the experience I had today, it may take some prayer as well.
Disapointed Louisiana Lady
Are reservations accepted for Saturday morning breakfast? If not how hard is it to get a table during this time?
