This is a local eatery that serves a great lunch. Try to get there before 12:00 or the service slows down considerably. Red beans and rice is always good, as well as both versions of their gumbo. Onion rings are hand cut and battered.

Husband and I both had the shrimp poboys with French fries. We both thought it was very good. The poboys were big and it will fill you up.

I can only say that the food is consistently good, and I have always liked the atmosphere. Last night's stuffed catfish was excellent, and so was the seafood platter. The service is fast and friendly.

I brought a group of 17 students for lunch. We faxed our orders in and when we got there they had everything prepared. We did not have to wait for anything. We were out of there by 45 minutes. It was awesome!!

We arrived for supper about 7 pm. There was people waiting outside for a table. The hostess took our name and was friendly. Wait time was about 30 minutes so we headed to the bar to kill the time. Bartenders were friendly and even gave us some promotional Abita items when we ordered the new season beer. The wait took... More

Good family atmosphere! Food was pretty good. Crab fingers were really good and the crabcake as well. Our server was accommodating when I asked to move due to space. I would go back.

Thank you so much! We really appreciate hearing your kind words. We just updated our menu though and we will no longer have the crab claws. We hope that you will find another favorite appetizer though and visit us again! More

Went here for dinner one evening and hat the battered mushrooms for the appetizer and the stuffed catfish for the main. Both were really good. I would definitely eat here again and I'd probably order the same meal 👍

Ponchatoulas was founded in February 1996, by original owner Johnny Gaudet, who then partnered with Chris Garriga in 2004. With a passion for good food and fun, Gaudet opened the restaurant on the bustling Park Avenue in downtown Ruston. The building housed a fire station in the early 1900's, complete with the big red fire truck and even horse-drawn carriages lining the downtown streets. Some years later, the location became a landmark for one of history's music legends, Elvis Presley. Presley recorded in an upstairs studio of the then KRUS radio station. It wasn't until the late 1980's that the building was converted to a restaurant, not much different from the current site. The full-service restaurant offers patrons a wide variety menu that includes appetizers of seafood gumbo, fried mushrooms and boudin balls, as well as from the fryer servings of fried crawfish tails, shrimp, oyster and catfish. Ponchatoulas is famous for their crawfish étouffée, red beans and rice, crab cakes, poboys, and white chocolate bread pudding. Open for lunch and dinner, patrons often come for the free live entertainment and happy hour drink specials. The restaurant's Cajun ambiance will make you feel as though you are sitting in the French Quarter of New Orleans. If you'd rather take that New Orleans feeling home to your dining table, Ponchatoulas makes it easy with heat and serve to go orders.
