We've been wanting to try this place for a long time and were finally in town at the right time for lunch. We got the Jerk Chicken and Jerk Pork with a side of plantains. The chicken and pork were perfectly cooked, incredibly moist and...tender. The jerk sauce had just the right amount of heat. The plantains were good too. The service was super quick and very nice. We'll definitely be back.More

Very, very tasty. Extremely nice man working and cooking there. Love that there are flavorful vegetarian options. My husband LOVED the jersey chicken. Nice experience.

My trip has taken me from small town Indiana to Vermont, New Hampshire, and Bar Harbor. Came across Taste Jamaica by accident, and having been to Jamaica I thought I’d check it as Lobster could wait until dinner. I had the oxtails, rice and vegetables....None, none of it disappointed at all . Everything was delicious and flavorful. Oxtails tender with that gravy/sauce. Some of the best I’ve had. The owner asked if I like heat, why yeah, he brought me sample of sauce, bingo! Even put it on the vegetables. If you live in the area and haven’t visited, you better! It’s a small and quaint place with the reggae music. Ya Mon!More

Very tasty food!! Really better than expected, even after reading the Rave reviews. Wife got the falling-off-the-bone ribs. I got the delicious pork. Great sauce on both. A bit too much rice, but the cooked vegetables were yummy. Next time, we'll ask for extra sauce...so we can smother the rice. Highly recommend!More

We visited for the first time today for lunch. The building is unremarkable and situated right at the junction with Route 1 so it would be easy to miss...but the food is delicious. We had the jerk chicken and pulled pork sandwiches. Both were flavor...ful but not too spicey for New Englanders. We saw lots of other things on the menu we want to try in the future. You order at the counter and have the option of take out or eating at one of several tables in their dining room or outside at picnic tables. Our server was efficient and friendly. The big cloth napkins were a nice touch, too.More

I got the curry shrimp, and my wife had the ox tail. Both were excellent. Came with steamed vegetables that were fresh and cooked to perfection. Rice side was also ample and tasty. The prices are reasonable and no difficulty getting in. Closes at 7...PM. Most seating outside which was very nice but a little cool. Highly recommendMore

We live in this area and had never been here before. Such an unexpected pleasure! We ordered the jerk chicken plate and fish fritters at the counter and then went outside to a nice area with tables shaded by bright high quality umbrellas. We were...surprised to find cloth napkins wrapped around stainless knives and forks. We figured we would be getting paper and plastic. The food arrived quickly on real plates, another surprise. The fritters were tasty balls of slightly spiced fish and dough deep fried. Very light and crispy. They came with a nice pineapple aioli which cost a bit extra. My jerk chicken was just right. Spicy but not too hot. The meat was juicy. The rice and beans were just right too as was a cold cooked cabbage slaw. The staff was friendly, the price was right. We were there on the early side for lunch. We were the only ones there at 11:45am. I hope they do well because they deserve to.More

We had amazing food here, the jerk chicken breast was so unbelievably tender, the mutton curry was divine with the meat falling off the bones as was the oxtail. Even more amazing than the food is the staff. My friend had left her phone behind...and not only did they keep it safe, they charged it so that if someone called they would be able to get through. The manager then came back to the restaurant 3 hours after it closed to give us the phone!More

The food was absolutely fantastic - jerk chicken was as good as what we ate when we visited Jamaica! Pretty fair prices for the quality of food that was served. The inside is very small - there is plenty of outdoor seating, but the weather...wasn't great the day we visited and there are only a few indoor tables. But absolutely worth the stop. Best food we ate on our week-long vacation.More

I must say I was very skeptical when I first heard of Taste Jamaica! A friend of mine who’s a Mainer bragged about the food and I said to myself inwardly, mmm, I’ll be the judge of that. And she was right. Yummy yummy! I’ve...sampled their Jerk chicken, Curried goat, Coconut shrimp, Oxtail, Fish, Fritters, and plantain. The Rice & peas is so fresh and delicious. The taste is on point. My first experience in 2019 was dining in, with my sister who had just came in from Massachusetts and I wasn’t disappointed. I had a friendly round of chit chat with Shane who’s the owner and Chef, during our chat, I boldly asked him if he had a single brother that can cook like he does, sadly he does but, they’re all taken. Taste Jamaica is my go to place to pick up or dine in every chance I get. Love the food, service and the atmosphere ❤️😋❤️😋❤️😋❤️😋More

This place is awesome the staff is friendly and the food speaks for itself. You have to have a chef from Jamaica to pull Jamaican food off and this place nails it. You guys are that little touch of Jamaica that I miss from visiting...a dear friend there who has since passed but this brought back great memories. My friend taught me how to eat with my fingers there and I do everytime I get Jamaican food. Messy good. Bravo to the chef and crew.More

I hadn't seen this restaurant in two years and came across it today in a new location. This is a tiny restaurant with a small indoor area but a nice outdoor set up. I am not aware of any other local Jamaican restaurants and nice...to have this alternative. I had the wings and my wife had the chicken sandwich and both were excellent. I look forward to trying more dishes soon.More

We vacation in Ellsworth each year. Just saw this little eatery on the way into town. We decided to get take out on our way back from the park. We stopped in at 3pm on a Thursday. The outside is quite unassuming . But walking...in we noted the awesome backyard cafe tables and the inside is great! A separate cozy dining area that is very Covid appropriate . Loads of room and spotless. If you have not had Jamaican food you are missing a treat and this local eatery has some of the best I have eaten - and I have eaten in Jamaica. We got our food to carry out and it was lovingly prepared and boxed up. We got the Jerk Chicken and Pork ribs . Both out of this world served with fresh beans and rice and fresh veggies. Seasoning is superior and all food was fresh and home cooked. We also got a slice of the homemade coconut cake . Perfection. Prices are exceptional . Highly highly recommend grabbing this great food on your way to or home from the park . Locals you have one of the best Jamaican eateries ever ! I am jealousMore
