Dive bar . Crap service. Decent food but would not go back . Overall just very average and junk bucket service

My husband and I have been coming here, periodically, over the years and usually enjoyed the fresh seafood. Last Sunday, we dragged our 30 yr old son here who would have preferred going elsewhere. After a not unexpected 30 minute wait (Sunday peak Summer) we...More

We've come here every year when we visit Portland while our kids are at camp. We only get the oyster, steamers, and beer, but it's so good. The staff is really friendly as well. It's a dive bar in every sense but so worth it.

Just as a lobster roll should be: toasted bun packed with lobster meat (no mayo, etc). Fun bar type atmosphere with good food and cold beer.

We had a long wait, as there were six of us on a Saturday night, but we truly enjoyed the food. Everyone was happy. The waitress was terrific and handled our food allergies extremely well.

So much fun sitting at the bar with the locals. Yes, J's is filled with locals. Usually a good sign, and certainly deserved in this instance. Freshest of oysters, mussels and clams. Delicious lobster rolls. Visited this restaurant twice in 4 days.

I've eaten a lot of seafood over the years and so many times it's over cooked but here at J's it was sweet, delicate and perfect. Not too salty either. Definitely will come back.

No. And it gets pretty crowded on weekend evenings. When you arrive, give your name to the staff by the register inside the main entrance; they will put you on a list.
