Portland has become one of my favorite small cities and it's because of places like Five Fifty Five that I keep going back. We vacation on the coast of Maine every August and, while we could fly into Bangor and save three hours of driving, we choose to land at Portland because of the many fine restaurants. Five Fifty Five... More

This restaurant had been recommended to us several times during the past summer season by family members and friends who had dined there. We thought their enthusiastic comments were perhaps a bit "over the top." However, when we paid a visit there ourselves on a recent wonderful stay in Portland, we realized how right they were. The food is delicious,... More

We enjoyed the food here but not the attitude. It is quite odd that you get this kind of attitude in a place like Portland. I am actually a hospitality Consultant and don't receive the attitude in places we have dinedlike NYC, Chicago, SF, Paris, Tokyo, London....etc. We were really surprised by this. There are too many other places in... More

Hello, I want to thank you for your feedback and honest review. We read all of our reviews and use the information to help train and improve our customer service. It is very upsetting to hear that you were not treated warmly and professionally. That is a great disappointment for myself and management to learn. We would love to hear... More

The service and food were great. There isn't anything particularly special about the ambiance, but you will eat well.

We requested to be sat upstairs and were so glad we did! The view overlooking the hustle and bustle of the kitchen was exciting. All of the things we tried were excellent! You can't go wrong with the lobster mac n cheese. It was not your average mac n cheese. Super moist, creamy, pasta cooked to perfection with generous pieces... More

We have eaten all over the world in the best restaurants and this rates up with the best! We went with the waitress's choices and had some of their signature dishes (not to miss): lobster truffle mac & cheese, fois grois, tomato pesto salad (tomatoes are in season),.

Be sure to ask to sit upstairs. It's fun to be able to overlook the kitchen as they plate the food. And the food and service were THE BEST!!! Can't wait for next year!

Highly rated restaurant and with good reason. Food is excellent, as is the service. Nice wine list with plenty of good choices. Among the signature dishes is scallops with a tomato-vanilla sauce. My wife thought the vanilla a bit strong, but the scallops were great. We happened in on a Thursday evening when oysters are always half-price, so that made... More

We very much enjoyed fine dining at 555 in Portland ME. Nice atmosphere. Creative treatment of food without being over the top. The 5-course tasting menu had many choices with appropriate-sized servings. Grilled caesar salad was great. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Really what dining out should be.

I wandered in off the street and ate at the bar. The soup was outstanding, but they got my order wrong after that. Bartender seemed distracted and not particularly friendly. I think if you eat in the main dining room the service might be more consistent with the quality of the food.
