We stopped for lunch and had two Amato's originals made with freshest ingrediancis that can be found. Fresh bread and rolls. made to order while you look on. Drinks out of the cooler and a bag of chips fits the bill. A very inexpencive lunch for a wonderfull meal.

They were great when I was kid a long time ago and only had one store they made an "Italian Sandwich" that could not be matched. They are now a chain and there is little to no consistency and they've become just your run of the mill "Italian Sandwich". It's not bad but is a far cry from the great... More

An absolute JOKE! I ordered a large Italian sandwich and to my surprise I unwrapped this surprisingly light hoagie and discovered 1 piece of ham and 1 piece of cheese. Peppers and black olives must have been on sale from their wholesaler as the sandwich was overflowing with these items. Awful sandwich, Go somewhere els

There is nothing special about the building or the Take-out Sandwich Shop - no eat-in but plenty of people coming and going. We have gone by this well known Italian Sandwich Shop but had not gone in until yesterday. We were pleasantly surprised with the portion and quality of out pasta dinners. As busy as they were the food arrived... More

We had to feed a number of people and not being from the area decided on Amato's. We ordered finger sandwiches, salad, chicken tenders and pizza. All were very good. Pizza was sliced perfectly. Would definitely order from here again. It was ready when we requested, too!

On our way home to Boston from Maine recently we stopped here to get a takeout sub for lunch. Ordered the "Italian" with all the extras. Back in the early 70's, when we lived here, we got their subs all the time. So, what happened? What we ended up with was an open face deli french roll, with all the... More

Amato's is one of our first stops when we go to Maine to visit family. Our order is always the same --- Italian sandwiches. I've been eating their Italian sandwiches since I was a kid and I never grow tired of them. Now that my family lives in Florida, it is amazing how many people we know who are from... More

D'Amato's looks great from the street, and upon entering, the aromas from cooking pizzas are enticing, but the food here is fast food - plain and simple. I had a pre-made salad and a personal size pizza. Both were just ok. You can order at any of several counters that serve soup, crepes, pizza, subs, and salads. You get a... More

I visited the location on St. John St. - wasn't able to find it listed in Trip Advisor. This is apparently a local chain that started in Portland. This location was carry out only - I don't know if they are all that way or not. I had the chicken pesto panini and hubby had the classic Italian sandwich. We... More
