We actually walked across the street from our inn to see if the reviews were accurate…and they were. We ate both breakfast and dinner. The haddock and clam chowder was beyond my expectations and seared scallops superb. Quite the 5 star level of service and...food. I highly recommend this place to anyone on Deer IsleMore

Nice find. The food and service were very, very good. The fish/clam chowder was some of the best we ever had. You can't fake fresh and that's how I would describe the haddock sandwich we ordered. We look forward to returning.

Excellent food. The best Blueberry pie I’ve ever had in a restaurant. The lobster and salmon were fresh and tasted great.

We ate lunch here and had the clam chowder. It was wonderful; fresh ingredients and light. I had the scallops they we sweet and cooked perfectly. My husband had the salad with roasted beets feta cheese and roasted walnuts also very good. We went back...the next day for lunch and had the lobster cook out. It included a 1 1/2 lb lobster, clam chowder, corn on the cob, potato salad, and blueberry pie all for $35.More

This is a charming restaurant that appears to be a gathering place for locals. The breakfast menu had a wide variety and the portions were generous. They appeared to be understaffed so service was a little slow. The restaurant was very crowded and noisy but...not unpleasant--just a lot of local folks enjoying themselves.More

I do love the Harbor Cafe, and the new owners have done a fabulous job this year. Last night was the first time I was disappointed- by the food. Service was excellent, but the Irish pub food was really weak. Fish and chips were good....Shrimp soggy, starters boring and shepherd pie more of a soup. Don’t worry, we’ll be back - everyone is allowed an off night. (Maybe not for Irish pub menu tho).More

Had had so many good meals on vacation that we forgot there was any other kind, but Harbor Cafe definitely reminded us! Had a remarkably poor lunch. My "day boat scallops" were so overcooked that they were shriveled up and hard, and couldn't be cut...except with a knife! The waitress brought an extra platter of fries, unordered and unasked, maybe to make up for it? The fish in my husband's fish sandwich also was overcooked, it was dried out but not hard. We could have complained and might have done better on the retry, but we had been there quite awhile - it took a very long time before anyone took our order - so we just ate our fries, paid the bill, and left, poorer but wiser.More

Mixed reviews by others going in, but it was the only place open. Was seated after a very short wait. I ordered their Clam Chowder which was the best I’ve ever had, but from then on it went downhill fast. I had the fresh scallops,...wife had fish tacos. Her tacos were pretty good. I was served just five scallops which were lukewarm and the fries were cold and had the texture of wet leather. Server never stopped to even ask how our meal was…with tip, $74.00! Ludicrous!More

Working on a project nearby and stopped over twice in two days. Fish tacos are first rate and fresh. Lobster rolls are lightly dressed with Mayo served on a toasted bun. Get seafood 🦞 because they know how to make it. We enjoyed a couple...drinks. Full bar and service is friendly. I think a reservation is a good idea for weekends..More

This is the only place in town on a Tuesday in September if you want a sit down dinner. We waited in line for about 15-20 minutes until we were seated - not bad. The special for the night was prime rib, so we ordered...that. The meat was a large cut, but it was smothered in an unappealing gravy and the broccolini on the side was ruined by a sea of flavorless cheese sauce. The mashed potatoes were like paste. Pretty much inedible all around. Probably should have ordered seafood, but thought because it was the special if would be better. Service was ok. And the restaurant has a decent ambiance, but kind of an upscale diner feel.More

Where do I start. What drew me in was a sign saying they had a steamed lobster lunch special for $20. When I ordered it, they told me they ran out and were waiting for the lobster boat to deliver more. How do you run...out of lobster on a weekday at 12:30 in a town that has 300 lobster boats. And, they should have removed the outdoor sign and all the little placards on each table advertising the special. I ordered a daiquiri, lobster chowder, and a haddock sandwich. They brought me a tab for the drink and chowder -- they forgot I ordered the sandwich. Then they charged me extra for mashed potatoes that I had assumed came with the sandwich. They said it came with the lobster special I had ordered. I reminded them that they ran out of the lobster special. (It's like a comedy routine, right?). Anyway, the daiquiri was average, and the chowder and sandwich were good. The service was inept, bordering on dumb.More
