Ordered the sirloin steak breakfast with scrambled eggs, hash browns and a biscuit (which was superb). Extra charge for the biscuit instead of toast - which the waitress neglected to mention. Steak was cooked perfectly, but lots of gristle (1/3 of it). Eggs were perfect....Floor was dirty and table/booth needed better cleaning, also.More

Omelets are excellent! Other egg dishes also good. Service was excellent during busy time. Made sure our coffee was always full.

I ordered 2 eggs, white toast, home fries and coffee. My waitress never came back to see how my meal was and refill my coffee. My home fries were burnt and left over from the previous day (I was in there 15 minutes after they...opened in the morning).More

I've heard for years that Fairgrounds is great for breakfast but I was sadly disappointed on my recent visit. The cheese omelet came with processed American cheese, the only option. It was rather tasteless but edible. The rye toast was fine. The has brown potatoes...were barely cooked, closer to still raw and not edible.More

My husband and I have breakfast every Saturday at the Fairgrounds. We are on a first name basis with all of the wait staff on Saturday mornings and at this point, don't even need to give them our order. We are greeted by name and...our meal comes out fast and hot. We haven't eaten other meals there but the menu looks great. We just love our breakfast and Saturday morning routine. We love their eggs and omelets, and they always make sure our food is cooked exactly as ordered. The staff is friendly and fast, and the prices are more than reasonable. We love the home cooking and there is plenty of room so we always get right in without a wait. The Fairgrounds also has a lot of things like paint nights, psychic dinners, & more...something for everyone.More

The food was ok but the service was such that I won’t go back. I felt like an unwanted patron at a private club. Paying my bill was such a hassle I almost walked out without paying. They had a bunch of excuses but whatever...- going 30 minutes out of my way to Denny’s next time to get what I expect.More

A good sized restaurant with counter, table and booth service. The wait staff was very good. We found breakfast just ok and the pricing on the higher side. My experience is that there are better breakfast restaurants in Brunswick.

This is a great diner that serves "real" homemade food. We had not been here for years and it was everything we remembered and more. My Hubby got the liver and onions served with real potatoes and green bean/carrot mix. He said the liver was...cooked perfectly. I got the country fried steak which was very good. We got on order of onion rings as an appetizer and could not finish them all. Huge portions, priced right with breakfast served all day long. A real diner gem. Very friendly staff.More

I LOVE breakfast and I'm a sure fan of independent restaurants that keep the locals coming in. I have lived nearby for many years, but only recently found myself in Topsham un-fed, un-hurried, and looking for breakfast. I spotted the Fairgrounds Cafe, quickly checked their...menu online, and figured I'd discovered a new favorite. Unfortunately, I did not. I could go into other details (television on and omni-present, an unpleasant odor that almost turned me off and out the door before ordering, or sick (coughing and sniffling) wait staff who should be home and healing instead of serving), but I'll stick to the food... Until now, I believed it impossible to make scrambled eggs and home fries undesirable; Fairgrounds somehow did so. The eggs were fluffy, yet also slimy and flavorless, and the home fries were entirely repellant (and ANYthing potato is pretty much my favorite part of breakfast!) - they were an odd gray-brown/black, absolutely mushy, and (again) flavorless (and I even employed salt, pepper, AND hot sauce!) Finally, all was served on a black plastic plate with a small fork (much like an elementary school lunch fork, which never stirs happy memories). So, ultimately, the meal appeared disappointing and did not improve at all upon tasting. I will say that the coffee was decent (and, thankfully, regularly refilled in a solid mug) and the grilled English muffin was pretty tasty (and, by far, the high point of my meal). It also bears noting, however, that menu prices are higher than what any online menu images imply (and not knowing who even posted them or how recent those images are, I'm only suggesting awareness of (and not implying negligence or blame for) any discrepancies. So, two eggs & home fries, etc. is now $7.49 (not $5.50) and coffee is $2+ on top of that -- (and, FYI - even if you decline the meat, you won't save a dime) So, prices looked high when I saw the actual menu, felt steeper when I tried to slog through eating what I did get, and ultimately left me feeling pretty fleeced when I left half a plate of food and headed for the door. That said, Fairgrounds certainly had more than a few regulars streaming in while I was there - perhaps they knew something I didn't find out! Too bad!More

The Fairground Cafe offers just about everything a diner would want! It was a humid day when we were there recently but that did not stop us from having chowder! The waitstaff was top notch as if we were in a 5 Star NYC Restaurant;...I was very impressed with his politeness and attention to detail. Who would’ve thought a little cafe would have such exemplary service! Everything was great! And I plan to go there again this week!More
