We read about Red's Eats as the place to go for the best lobster rolls, but the wait was an hour and 15 minutes in line, then another 20-30 min for your food! Went across the street to Sprague's family restaurant and we are glad...we did! This is where the locals go! They say its as good, if not better than Red's, a little bit cheaper, and you wait a fraction of the time! That was absolutely true for our party of 6, traveling through from Portland to Bar Harbor. Plus, they are arguably in a better location with multiple decks looking over the water. Very clean, friendly service. This is the place!More

Sprague’s is across the street from its well known competitor. It serves excellent lobster rolls and you do not have to stand in line for an hour or more. Locals prefer Sprague’s. Family run for 26 years. Also try the full diner.

Toasted roll, fresh and absolutely succulent lobster, sitting on the deck with a wonderful breeze. Let me suggest you get both the mayo and the butter. There was a line, but nothing like across the street. Absolutely the best meal I had in Maine.

We were told that the Lobster Roll across the street was the best but we took a chance at Sprague's. Glad we did. The Lobster Roll 's were fresh and moist and the toasted roll was jamed with the succulent meat. Best of all the...price was $5 less than the famous shack across the street and the wait in line was a fraction of the time.More

I've been undertaking a lobster roll challenge - to find the best lobster roll on the Maine coast. Sprague consistently gets my vote for its fresh lobster, large portion, and toasted bun!

Had lobster roll and clams, very tasty. Nice view of water. Very friendly staff and prices were good. Had to wait, but not to long.

There are a lot of lobster shacks along the Maine coast and this is one of the better ones. It's a great place to lunch while en route to the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens. Like other places of this type, you order at a window,...and have your number called to pick up the food and take it to one of the nearby picnic tables. This was not a busy day here, so our food arrived fairly promptly. The menu is mostly standard stuff for a place of this kind, but that is what one is looking for here. Fish and chips were absolutely first-rate, very fresh, not at all greasy, and cut into unusually small pieces which made it "finger food." The fries really tasted like the potatoes they were made from. The person in our party who ordered the steamed littleneck clams deemed them the best she had ever tasted, and she has had them often. The only unsuccessful item was the clam cakes, which contained a lot more breading than clams and had almost no taste. The fish and clams dishes came with a tiny side of decent cole slaw, and a bit less tartar sauce than we would have preferred. Note that the restaurant is "cash only," but there is an ATM on site.More

Just returned from a week at Acadia. Drove from Portland to BH and stopped at Sprague's. Considered going to Red's but read the reviews at Spragues and the line was SIGNIFICANTLY longer at Red's. We kept tracking where we would've been if we stayed on...the Red's line. Can't imagine the food is that much better at Red's. Our food was great and there was a much shorter line.More

Why wait an hour for the same food at a better price across the street. Friendly, fast and delicious. Clean tables and a better view of the water. Even gave us a bowl of water for our dog. Plus, you can get a lobster dinner...or a single lobster. Yay, Sprague's!More

The place across the street had a line of about thirty people. We went to Sprague's, shorter line but we had a bulging and delicious lobster roll. Limited parking. It's just before the bridge, if you're going north, a shabby looking place from the street....But lots of character. Get out and walk around. it's a working dock. Cooking the lobsters right next door. Picnic tables.More

Its market price by the pound so it depends on the day and serving size, they both post their prices daily. We paid about $22 at each place in May.
