The chips alone should rank this place as less than average, but given it's location devoid of genuine ethnicity, they get a break. The chips approach the texture and taste of Lay's. Doritos would be an improvement. Atmosphere was pleasant and drinks are tasty. It's a good spot, but it's not Mexican food (in fairness, perhaps it doesn't pretend to... More

Busy Mexican restaurant. They will customize you guacamole at your table for you and have good food portions. Waiters are very friendly. Will get louder than usual if busy. Large open floor plan. A must have if you like to dabble in the dessert menu for something unique Chocolate Piñata, yummm! They bring a stick to break it open all... More

I have also visited the restaurant in Atlanta and decided to see if the food would be good here. I was pleasantly surprised to find the food was very very good as it was in Atlanta. The service (Sean) was extremely good, he was very attentive even though the restaurant was very busy for a Friday night.

It's texmex. It's hard to screw up right? Well maybe not, but it's hard to completely ruin. This place is a step above dumps like Chevy's and On the Border, but not unique or outstanding in any way. But it's probably the best Tex Mex in Bethesda.

Amazingly, this noisy family friendly restaurant has a menu with calories indicated on ALL items, including their margaritas. Meals are big, so choosing a carne asada which is indicated at 450 calories...was easy since asking the waiter, he told us it was a full 10 ounce steak, indeed enough for us to split the portion. The rice and beans add... More

We weren't expecting much when we ducked into Uncle Julio's the other day for lunch. We thought that maybe, just maybe it would have retained enough of the old Rio Grande Cafe quality to make it alright. So the first rate meal and terrific service (Lamar was our server) were a great surprise. The menu is pretty extensive with an... More

Not being from the Bethesda area, I came across Uncle Julio's on a business trip. Apparently a chain, I did it expect much. I was pleasantly surprised with the good quality of the salsa, queso, and carne asada. The salsa had a wonderful smoky flavor, the queso wonderfully spicy, and the carne asada prepared to a perfect medium rare. A... More

Last weekend we had the chance to spend a fun evening with friends and Uncle Julio. Watermelon margarita, table guacamole and fajitas what an incredible combination. Service was great, timely and so nice. We had made reservations and able to sit outside on a beautiful Fall night. Can't wait to visit Washington and Uncle Julio again.

Very good meal with friends. Service was prompt and attentive, but never disruptive of our conversation (you can have too much attention from wait staff). Food was all well prepared and flavorful. Carnitas just lacked a little bit of flavor.
