I admit I'm sentimental, and when you throw in party history, it's a done deal. Before we ever moved to DC, we knew Lee Atwater had founded a BBQ restaurant. Since his untimely passing in 1982, the chain has flourished. No newcomer to RH&B, that s one is a bit off the beaten path. Tucked in the corner of a... More

Food is consistently good, which keeps me coming back. Portions have fallen off - especially on the kids menu - and no draft beer - theirs anyway - the last couple of visits. New management to blame?

Ok, so it has been years since I have gone to a Red Hot and Blue so we decided to eat here as we had a craving for BBQ...in the past I have eaten at the chain and was not impressed overall.....I will say the best thing I had from here on my visit on April 3 was the burnt... More

Dealt with Derek and placed order for multiple items for a family gathering. He was extremely helpful. When we have eaten in, the dry ribs and pulled pork are always delicious.

Hidden away in a strip shopping center at the north end of Rockville (near Shady Grove Metro), sits this unpretentious restaurant. We're NEVER disappointed there! The quality of the food is consistently great, the atmosphere is welcoming - great music and not too noisy, and the service is top-notch! Our server yesterday, Kaitlyn, was cheerful and efficient (her timing was... More

I had a taste for bbq so I found this place on Google maps and it had good reviews. I had the Memphis chicken with Garlic mashed potatoes and baked beans. Each item was delicious. I added on a 2 piece rib just to taste it... It was pretty good. I'm not a rib eater so... go figure. There were... More

Visited Red Hot and Blue with several friends for lunch. Service was fast and friendly. Restaurant has been updated some since a prior visit, which was good. I had the stuffed sweet potato and a side of fried okra. The sweet potato was really good and the pulled pork was quite moist from the potato below and the cheese above.... More

There's nothing unexpected at Red Hot & Blue... BBQ ribs and chicken, plus the usual accompaniments. The food is good, the selection is fine as long as you're looking for BBQ. Its tucked into the corner of a strip mall with a Giant Supermarket, and bigger inside than you might expect. Reasonably priced, comfortable seating. Its the kind of place... More

This BBQ restaurant near the Shady Grove Metro station was a go-to standby for years when I was stationed in DC. I routinely eat here when I’m visiting the northern burbs. Best BBQ around! On a whim, I tried the brisket this time and was disappointed for the first time ever; the color was like meatloaf (brownish-grey) and the flavor... More

For our weekly dining out, we went to this restaurant and tried their dishes for the first time. Personally, I don't like BBQ but my companion told me that it serves dishes other than BBQ. We ordered the Special of the day BBQ ribs (good for 2 persons) that came with 4 side dishes plus FREE dessert. Not knowing whether... More

Description
Red Hot and Blue is a full-service, casual-themed restaurant chain and caterer featuring delicious award-winning ribs, Memphis-style barbeque, smoked wings, and Southern sides and desserts. The atmosphere is steeped in legendary and contemporary blues music and delivers a large dose of Southern hospitality in a fun and entertaining dining environment. History: The first Red Hot and Blue restaurant opened in Arlington, Virginia in 1988, started by Lee Atwater, Don Sundquist and friends. Don Sundquist was from Memphis and served in the House of Representatives and as governor of Tennessee. The late Lee Atwater was an amateur blues musician and political figure that managed George H.W. Bush's successful race for the presidency. These men were friends who longed for authentic Memphis-style barbeque and great blues music. Unable to find that combination anywhere in the Washington, DC area they decided the only way to get it done was to open a restaurant of their own. The Memphis-style barbeque chain celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013 by partnering with a charitable organization at 24 different restaurant locations. The yearlong celebration culminated in the presentation of thousands of dollars in donations to local charities. The Name: The name, "Red Hot and Blue" is taken from the title of D.J. Dewey Phillip's radio show that that aired on WHBQ-AM in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950s. This radio show launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash and broadened the audience for artists such as BB King, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray and Rufus Thomas. Red Hot & Blue Dine-In, Take-Out and Catering. Hickory-smoked Memphis-style BBQ, Ribs, Wings, Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Seafood, Full-service Bar, in a Family-friendly atmosphere with a heapin' helpin' of Southern Hospitality!
