My wife and I returned to Montague, Massachusetts on a fall foliage tour. We had been to this restaurant years ago prior to moving out of the area. A beautiful day was not disturbed by the twists and turns required to find The Alvah Stone...More

My family stopped in to the book mill to browse on a rainy day. We happened to find the Alvah Stone and were pleasantly surprised. There is another restaurant on site and it looks super cozy and friendly but The Alvah Stone seemed more relaxed...More

My sister-in-law had a great meal here on her previous visit and wanted to take us there. We went on a Sunday and arrived about 15-20 minutes before brunch ended so perhaps it was not the best time. My brother-in-law got a glass of white...More

My wife loved it; I thought it was good not great. Not crowded on a summer Friday evening, but service was a tad slow...mostly the bartender who kept doing a disappearing act. Sat on the patio and enjoyed the river which was running strong due...More

We love Alvah Stone for it's interesting and well-done food offerings. The honey butter brown sugar grilled cornbread - OMG - and we are vegetarian so no bacon. Can't even imagine the bacon aspect but if that's your thing then this is also your thing!!!!...More

We were looking for the Montague Bookmill and happened on the Alvah Stone restaurant just below it in Montague, Massachusetts. It was one of those happy accidents with good food in an exciting location. The restaurant is a converted mill retaining all of the interior...More

I had lunch here yesterday 7/18 and I've never had a finer dining experience. The setting, of course, is lovely...an open deck overlooking the rippling Sawmill River. Our server, Deidre, was a delight...friendly and welcoming, knowledgable about the menu and the history of the Bookmill...More

The deck overlooking the Sawmill River is wonderful, in either cool or warm weather, and the service on our visit was cheerful and helpful. Be ready to choose a sheltered table if too sunny, or eat inside (also pleasant). Menu is modet, drinks are creative.

This is a very nice restaurant, although there is an outdoor deck where people eat in fair weather, so I wouldn't expect it to be a place where you could bring a pet.
