Was staying in Winthrop and found this gem! They do food late, even on a Sunday. The atmosphere is great, definitely created by the amazing staff who had us in stitches. Midrange prices but generous portions and the food tasted great. Keep up the good work guys!

Really bad from the start. No fried green tomatoes for an appetizer, onion rings tasted ok but the breading fell off half the order. No mashed potatoes as a side. Service was slow, though friendly. Pulled pork sandwich was dry, tasteless. Brisket was good, moist, decent portion. Sides were disappointing. Spicy Asian slaw was neither. Sweet potato salad was bland,... More

This place is a hidden gem in Winthrop. Great bbq! Awesome service! The bartender Brian is great and makes us feel welcome every time we come in. Place is a little small but the food is well well worth it. They got nice seasoned wings for a good price. Try the pulled pork and the chill mac and cheese.

If in Winthrop, try the Blackstrap. This is a basic bar with great BBQ. Try the chicken wings or the Pulled chicken sandwich.

So glad we made it to Blackstrap BBQ tonight! Enjoyed their incredibly good smoked wings, fried chicken (Wednesday's special), spare ribs and brisket! Amazing sauces. Fun bar scene with friendly, excellent service.

Over priced, food decent, service good, I ordered a app of fried green tomatoes, the squirrels are eating it now, red bones in somerville is a much better option.

Description
Barbecue is a labor of love! The process of cooking is slow, often taking a whole day to cook certain proteins. Long cooking time is ideal for large cuts of meats and meats with a lot of connective tissue because it allows time for the tissues to break down, making it much more tender. Heat is low and indirect and uses smoldering logs of wood or charcoal to add a smoky flavor to the meat. The smoke is hot enough to smolder, but not hot enough to burn. At blackstrap bbq we use hard wood, which consists mostly of oak, but many types of wood can be used. Chef chris thompson, and partner kate economides, opened blackstrap bbq in october 2010. The two met while working together at the legendary east coast grill, in cambridge, ma and have since formed a partnership through their love for good, old-fashioned, all-american barbecue. Enjoy life + enjoy bbq!
