Staying in the Scafell Hotel dictates you must try this bar, especially for the selection of local real ales and the food is very good...it shares the kitchen with the hotel where the food is excellent. A friendly warm welcome, especially with the roaring fire when we entered after a long, very wet walk. I like other reviewers do not... More

Welcoming and friendly staff, the menu is varied and the food portions are very filling, the specials board is worth a look and the desserts are also good and varied. The menu could do with possibly a pasta dish and maybe for the person with a smaller appetite a small portion section on the menu. Good local Ales are available,... More

What a wonderful and welcoming place to eat, drink and absorb atmosphere. Great staff, great food and great beer. A large group of us had come up from Norfolk for a weekend of hill/mountain walking and were stopping in a nearby camping barn needing somewhere for evening meals - didn't take us long to find the Riverside Bar tucked behind... Please see my review within the review given for the Scafell Hotel. We found this bar lively and with good food and good selection of drinks at the bar.

Two of the 5 main courses we ordered were not food you would want to eat, and were therefore not eaten. The other courses were average. When we tried to order desserts we were told we were too late . (Contrary to hotel policy we were subsequently told) A complaint at the time was responded to by saying the hotel... More

We had a meal here recently while doing the Coast to coast walk (we were camping down the road). The staff were great and the meal was lovely. Additionally the waitress and chef went above and beyond for us. We had found out that there wasn't a shop where we could get provisions for our next days walk, but were... More

Two of the 5 main courses we ordered we almost inedible. When we tried to order desserts we were told we were too late - having been given no previous warning. Eventually the chef rustled something up.

We were staying in Seatoller and the bar was recommended to us. It was a very welcoming place with lots of canine friends! I had an absolutely wonderful leek pie for dinner. Yummy! They actually made an excellent coffee as well. Patrons were all visiting with each other and it was just a great experience!

I've dropped in at the Riverside more than once this summer whilst on backpacking trips with my little dog. It's always a pleasure to arrive here : the service is excellent (a rare thing these days), the choice of local ales and ciders is impressive and the ale is reliably on form - and the food is very good value... Description
The Riverside Bar is the pubic bar directly beside the Scafell Hotel and offers a great range of real ales from Jennings, Copper Dragon to beers from Local and Micro breweries like Keswick Brewery, Hesket Newmarket and Barngates , fine malts (we have over 60 to choose from), great 'Fill Yer Boot's' menu with regular specials and proper Cumbrian 'crack'. Here you meet the locals from around Borrowdale Valley as well as other visitors within the area. The bar is an ideal place to finish after a good hearty walk where you can enjoy a drink and discuss your day's adventures in front of open fires (seasonal) or on the veranda during those warmer months. This popular bar overlooks the river yet is cosy in all weather. This is where the popular Borrowdale Fell Race finishes and a good place to meet many of the fell race stars or view the Fell Race winner's board above the main fireplace. Pop along to experience some real Lakeland' and enjoy the laid back atmosphere with great service, great beer and great food.
