Great meal, maybe best this year! Looking for Friday fish options & picked the right place... the Cajun swordfish was 'off the hook' Nicole is a rock-star bartender and host... will definitely be back!

I've been here a couple of times, and each time, the service has been incredible, and the food excellent. Although a chain, the inside decor and atmosphere gave a classy, yet inviting, vibe. The menu is varied, and I haven't had a bad dish there...yet.More
Had a strip steak cooked medium. Inside was juicy, but they burnt the edges just a bit too much. Fries are crispy. Only four beers on tap. Service was OK, nothing special.
New York strip, exemplary. Steak Maui, divine. Carrot cake, sensational. Red-headed Rita, awesome. The food is always beyond compare, but this time, our server was exceptional. Swift, efficient, and attentive, ANDREW K is the one to ask for. You won’t be disappointed.
Next upscale family restaurant that has very good breasted chicken and a variety of polish items. Something for all members of the family with friendly servers
Yes, yes, and yes. You should absolutely go here. My ribeye, cooked medium, was perfect. Although, I requested sautéed mushrooms on top of my ribeye, like always and was disappointed. I do have to say, I was sure the mushrooms were canned mushrooms. I mentioned...it to our server and she didn’t hesitate to request new ones. The manager on duty, Michelle, was such sweetheart when she checked on us. She did insist that they were fresh mushrooms sautéed in olive oil. Ultimately, the mushrooms did not get any better and I’d honestly 86 whichever mushrooms they use all together. Q, our server, did her thing. I promise you, my sister and I never had to look for her. I’ve never felt so taken care of and let me tell you, it was a full house! I had a bunch of questions and she was delighted to answer all of them. Very friendly, kind and attentive. Michelle made sure we were taken care of as well. The atmosphere was great. Only thing we didn’t care for was the lighting in the restaurant because it was hard trying to get good pictures lol The carrot cake we received at the end of our meal was BOMB!! I was only able to take one bite after stuffing my face with ribeye and mashed potatoes but that was definitely enough to make me day dream about it until I had room in my stomach for it. That “piece” of carrot cake was moist, warm and massive! Topped off with what I believed to be cream cheese frosting. My sister had a New York strip cooked medium well, so we obviously cant rely on her taste buds haha but I’ll be back. OH, the restroom was SO CLEAN! Had to mention that because it’s rare.More
As always, a favorite go-to for a night out with friends. The waitress was lovely. The drinks were delicious. I was surprised at the new menu pricing. Two crabcakes ran around $45. A new york strip is over $50. Did not enjoy the fire-grilled artichokes...appetizer. Sent it back. Halibut, broccoli, and potatoes were delicious and the portion size was generous. I was looking forward to the carrot cake but was disappointed when a one-inch tall slice of cake was presented. While it was still delicious and warm, it was not their traditional tall carrot cake as many would remember, and cost almost $11. J. Alexanders is no longer $20-25, as stated on Trip Advisor. They should update the site to reflect current price points.More
Our dinner was fantastic! I had the steak-fries and my husband had grilled salmon with the cold rice/orzo salad - both cooked to perfection and delicious. We split a house salad (good, but they need to lose the iceberg lettuce) and a slice of the-best-in-the-world...key lime pie. Both the house red and white wines were fantastic. Hostesses were sweet and welcoming and we were seated immediately. Waitress, food servers, managers all went above and beyond to make this one of the best dinners we have had in years! Excellent place, nice atmosphere, reasonable prices.More
We were two couples for dinner. Our server, Haley, at first seemed to want to give us an enjoyable, relaxing dinner, asking if we wanted more time or ready to order immediately. We wanted to space our time and enjoy. First, one of our drinks was...made incorrectly. Second we ordered the Artichoke appetizer, While it tased great it was not cooked well enough to get any of the artichoke meat off the leaves. Definitely not worth the money. We ordered our meals after the drinks and app arrived. It seemed like the entree's arrived immediately after. We were still enjoying our drinks and trying to eat some of the undercooked artichoke, leaving too many plates crowding the table. My husbands haddock was not cooked well. I had the grilled chicken salad and must say it was excellent. We ended with their well known carrot cake. It was very good but not as good as I remember in the past. Then we had separate bills (one for each couple). We were charged for three entree's!!! Didn't notice until the next day. So I am sure they would not adjust after the fact. Not sure if our friends bill was right. Don't plan on going back there any time soon.More
During the pandemic in 2021, there weren’t many restaurants as were going to but we felt comfortable with J Alexander’s standards and as always, hospitality is great. We celebrated Mother’s Day a few days earlier to avoid the crowd during lunch and we celebrated Father’s...Day early on a Saturday when it was really busy. What I like about J Alexander is the they are consistent with quality of food and service whether I’m with family or solo. Time of day or day of the week never seems to effect them, which is why we come to this location often.More
J Alexander's reminds me of Houston's back home (Phoenix). That's not a bad thing. Dark woodwork and big booths frame the dining room ambience for the most part. Service ninjas (stealthy, well-trained, black-garbed) appear and disappear to efficiently dispense info, take orders, serve and clear....Drinks were surprisingly strong and, again, that's no complaint. Spinach Queso Dip appetizer was abundantly average. Came with enough dip for four and chips for twice as many. Sweetheart's house salad came tossed with more fresh components than I'd care to catalogue here, so kudos. From portion to tenderness and perfect rare roasting, my Prime Rib was worth every penny, and whoever made the horseradish cream that night did it right (mouth-tingling but not sinus-rattling). My mashed potatoes were tight and pasty, but nobody's perfect. Sweetheart ordered her Bistro Steak medium-well, so I didn't bother begging for a bite. She's a great gal, but likes her beef virtually burnt, can't eat anything spicy, and snores after too much Sangria. Still, she takes Geritol everyday, so I think I'll keep her (If you're 50-plus, you'll get that joke).More
We love the atmosphere at J. Alexander's. The patrons are a bit more (too) casual than you would expect for a nice white table cloth restaurant; but a sign of the times I guess. Very good wine and cocktail selection at reasonable prices. Service started...out bad with our server bringing us only 3 of the 4 cocktails. We had over a 5 minute wait, which might have been more had my wife not gone to find the waitress and asked her to get the other drink. She had to explain to her that it was rude to begin before everyone was served (the 3 of us were not going to drink until my son's wife was served her martini). Why she didn't just go back and get the 4th drink without us chasing her down after 5 minutes, when it was sitting at the bar, is unexplainable. After that situation, the service got better and was fine the rest of the way out. However, there was a noticeably longer than normal wait for each course - especially dessert. On to the food...The appetizers (deviled eggs and spinach queso) were both good, but the spinach queso was outstanding. The haddock and the steak Maui were both very good. The NY Strip was pretty good, but a little tough. We did not care for the Mac & Cheese, but the fries were excellent. For dessert, we chose the carrot cake and it turned out to be worth waiting for. It was warm and delicous - plenty to share for 4. The Broquel Malbec was a great accompaniment to the steak and very reasonable for a good Malbec. Glad we went. Surprised it was so crowded on a Monday night - maybe J. Alexander's was as well. We will look forward to trying again for lunch or another time for dinner.More
Went here for dinner on business. It was very busy on a Tuesday night. Service was good. All the food was food. I did think the chips/queso and filet minion were over priced.
Such a sad experience. Having secured a table and observed COVID waiting rules the steak we ordered was suddenly no longer available. Then trying to make the best of it we ordered the more expensive steaks. Drinks took 28 mins to come to table steaks...49 mins and we were told we could only stay 1 hour and 15 mins due to COVID rules. Steaks can they were all well done even though ordered medium rare. Then instead of 16 ounces they were 10 ounces. How frustrating. We complained and were given a “free” 16 ounce steak that was so rare you couldn’t cut through it. We took it home to cook further and left. Never again.More
Absolute WORST dining experience EVER!. Baked potato was cold and steak was nothing but burnt fat. DO NOT GO HERE unless you want cold food and fatty, burnt steaks. Asparagus was also tough, thick stalks. (Usually it is thin and long.) WORST restaurant in Livonia!....Seriously, don't blow your money here.More
