For 37 years, Cawthorne's Village Inn has been a favorite Mackinac Island destination of locals and tourists alike. In fact, it has consistently been voted one of northern Michigans best restaurants! A half block off Main Street, on Hoban Street and straight up from Shepler's Ferry Dock, sits “the VI,” where summer visitors can dine on the outdoor patio and watch a passing parade of horses, carriages, bikes and walkers. Originally opened as the Village Inn in 1981, diners enter below a hanging sign announcing its house specialty, Planked Whitefish, which has garnered international acclaim. Excellent food we ate there 2 times during our stay on the island both lunch and dinner. I would highly recommend the planked Whitefish. The portion is big so if you order an appetizer the planked Whitefish can be split between 2 people. Our server...More
We had lunch at the Village Inn when we got off the ferry. We had whitefish, it was excellent. We have been to the Village for lunch almost every time we get to Mackinac Island. The food and the service are really good. Our waiter...More

The service was great. Had salad & others had soup. All very good and just right for a light lunch. Sat outdoors so we watched all the traffic of the horses and bikes, as folks staying on the island went about their business without cars.

Disembarked from Sheplers Ferry and walked up to Cawthornes for lunch. Found table on the front porch and watched the horse taxis go by as we enjoyed a whitefish sandwich and cider ale. Friendly service by Lisa and reasonable price.
Hungry on the night of our arrival, we found good food, good value and wonderful staff who stopped to check on us often. The waitress chatted just enough to share good hints and make us welcome, even bringing small dishes of things to taste.
