Definitely for the adventuresome, just finding it is an adventure. Don't let the outside fool you, the food is good and sourced locally. Lots of lake choices. Since it was lunch for us, we had the Pepper-Jack, Bacon Cheeseburger, simply delicious, and the Reuben, the...corned beef was very flavorful. DIdn't have dinner or breakfast but were assure but local dinners both are very popular.More
First of the décor is terrible, just down right terrible! When you walk the floor feels very un even, and like it's going to cave in. There is a weird smell that just stays around, and after you leave it is on your clothes. Second...the food, everything tastes like it came from the frozen section and was microwaved! The chicken is okay but literally wouldn't eat anything else! The girls that work there all seem angry, like they are annoyed that you came into there business and you disrupted them.More
Stopped by, while traveling thru on a motorcycle trip. Neat, rustic old bar. Tucked away, just off the beaten path. Food and service was Great! Had the "Flying Pig" sandwich with fries. (be sure to add the bacon, if the girl asks) VERY filling sandwich....Nice fresh, soft, sub type bun. (also comes AuJus, if you want it) Didn't need the side of fries. First time that I ever had just a sandwich, fill me up. Awesome! My riding partner had a burger and onion rings and those were excellent also. Will definitely be going back.More
After reading the reviews we had to give this place a try. After all the trips we've made to Manistee, we couldn't believe we had never eaten here.
From the moment we walked in, I turned to the wife and said, "I love this place."...And that was BEFORE we had even been seated. Very eclectic decorating on the walls. A wealth of TV's to watch sports. Well stocked bar and a wide variety of beer to choose from.
A review of the menu was almost overwhelming....so much to choose from! Waitress was knowledgeable about the daily soup offerings. The chicken pot pie soup was incredible. The wife had a crab chowder that she loved. The soup menu changes daily.
As the place is known for its broasted chicken, that's what I got. INCREDIBLY delicious! The wife's burger was HUGE. Very glad to-go boxes are available.
The Painted Lady is located in the older part of town. I've seen some comments about the negativity of the neighborhood, but to be honest, I didn't feel that way. It's a working class part of town, and some of the homes nearby could use some work, but otherwise, I didn't get a bad vibe at all.
Quite frankly, every person I've met in Manistee has been just friendly as could be, regardless of what part of town they live in. And that extends to the staff of The Painted Lady. Big smiles, very welcoming, and they knew their regulars on sight.
Give this one a try!More
Painted Lady has promoted "broasted" chicken forever, although I don't know what that is.
Today, my wife and I drove up from Walhalla to find that, aside from the broasted chicken, broasted catfish and broasted zander (allegedly similar to walleye) are also on the menu....it's pretty much the usual bar fare - whatever comes off the Sysco or Gordon's truck. Deep fried appetizers, burgers, rueben, fried fish, you know the drill.
I had prme rib, which was a bit overdone and gristly, and I didn't get the salad I ordered. My wife liked her broasted zander just fine and brought home the portion she couldn't finish. Our server was friendly, the tables spaced for Covid dining and we WILL come back for the chicken. I'd also like to try their breakfast. My three stars notwithstanding, Painted Lady is a friendly place, and I'd like to try the broasted catfish, too. The owners do, however, need to invest in a good air conditioner. It was refreshing to get back into our ice cold car.More
Visited this little jam on our last vacation. Has a definite vibe and lots of cool things to look at inside. We enjoyed the food which I had the fried chicken. Great tap selection there too. Highly recommend!
