Surprisingly disappointing given reviews and proximity to Traverse. Olive plate was a half a jar or more of mushy picholine olives (for 2 people), and both the beet gazpacho and panko-crusted whitefish were almost inedibly sweet. Wine & cheese offerings uninspired, which was made clear...More

First, thank you for dining at La Becasse and for taking the time to submit a review. Negative reviews, while painful on our end (!), are ultimately very helpful because it gives us an opportunity to review the complaints and improve our products and services....More

I understand that the restaurant was once a rather ordinary place called Woodcock's that re-invented itself as La Becasse (the Woodcock.) The building has some of the original funkiness with an awkward entrance - up steps, behind a heavy curtain, and a narrow area leading...More

Thank you for your review! It is really spot on--I mean, I would love five stars, don't get me wrong--but you are right: the building is an old cinderblock building, and is not very elegant. We like to consider ourselves French country, and hope that...More

The last two times have been very disappointing. The waitstaff always delivers, but the chef falls flat. The deck has had a mosquito problem for years, and entrees are often overcooked. The bread, butter and desserts are great though. Their sister property in Traverse City,...More

First, thank you for your business, and for taking the time to review your recent experience at La Becasse. I wish it had been better! We make just about everything at the restaurant, including the bread and the desserts that you love, and it is...More

La Becasse is definitely our favorite! We think about it all year long, and when we visit Glen Arbor we try to come at least once--sometimes twice. It's a true French Country restaurant from the food, to the homey decor, to the extended families you...More

Excellent food- very good ingredients, served with interesting sauces. Very good service. A place that could easily compete with the highly rates restaurants of New York or Chicago

This was our second time to La Becasse and we had a wonderful experience both visits. The wine selection is broad, the food is excellent, the service is spot-on, and the ambiance is nice (small cozy inside...romantic).

This was by far the best meal of our trip to northern MI. It is such a quaint little restaurant pretty much in the middle of nowhere. We requested to sit outside and it was the perfect evening for it. They had a cute little...More

I love your review! Thank you, and next time be sure to save room for desserts. They are all made from scratch, and truly to die for. In the summer you have to try the blueberry lemon parfait! It's big enough to share.

Unexpected pleasure to find this amazing French bistro....service was excellent! Micha took great care of us and was a perfect blend of attentive but not intrusive. Started with the French olives with our wine ( great wine list), and shared the crusted whitefish and mushroom...More

Thank you so much for your great review--and I love that you enjoyed one of the Beaujolais on the list. They are so good, and an oft overlooked French wine.

I took my wife out to our favorite Northern Michigan restaurant for our 25th Wedding Anniversary dinner. We ate outdoors on their patio and it was just perfect. New waitress (only worked there for two weeks) but she was obviously experienced serving at other fine...More

Happy 25th anniversary! So glad you celebrated at La Becasse, and thank you for the lovely review!

I haven't been to La Becasse in 10+ years but it was as wonderful as ever. My family dined on Duck Pate, the lovely and delicate house salad, Rack of Lamb, Duck two ways and the Almond encrusted Pork Tenderloin. All were delicious! We wanted...More

Thank you for the great review, and the happy comparisons with small little European gems. Quaintness comment noted, and I completely agree. Hopefully on return visits you will find that LaB retains the essential quaintness, while making small improvements on the "non-essentials."
