Situated in the old part of town, this is a fun, cosy restaurant. Well cooked and interesting food. Great value and a fun wine list which caters for all pockets. Friendly staff and a friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit if in town and a...detour if not.More

Depends upon your expectations. 36€ menu or a la carte is more or less the same (cheese dish is the price difference). Not fine dining. OK food, fresh cooked but unimaginative, but hey, what would you think 36€ might get you? Perfectly acceptable but NOT...anything special! Service excellent.More

We arrived just as the restaurant opened for our evening meal without a reservation. However I would imagine at the weekend and high season you need to reserve in advance. Service is attentive but at times seemed a bit slow. The food is simply delicious....Well presented and good sized portions. Prices are a little higher than other restaurants in the area but well worth the money given the little extras you get. The only reason for 4 stars is that our steaks were overcooked, although replacements were offered we did decline as the taste was delicious. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed our meal and would recommend the Gavroche.More

Came one evening with friends - we had choices from the set menu (only set menu available) and had 2 courses for €30 )3 for €35). Delicious food, well cooked and enjoyable. Only downside was the lack of meat starters (only fish options) Would definitely...return!More

Having spent a few days in the area we were very dissapointed with the places locally to eat.Managed to contact the owner and made a reservation( i would suggest you book).Unfortunatly we had to cancel on the day but they managed to book us in...for the following evening.Welcome relief to find some good food which was presented to a high level.Good choice of wine and reasonable prices, local Cote de Blaye in a carafe was fine.Overall one of the better evenings on this trip.If your in the area try and book as this is far better then anything else nearby.More

Nice & cosy place proposing a reasonable range of dishes. Service was a bit strange upon arrival, but quick & correct. the only minus point was the lack of originality between different dishes: my husband and I ordered different things and ended up with only...the meat part being different.More

This place has a special place in my heart. We live in the UK but every year come to France on holiday and one of the highlights is lunch at Gavroche. It's small but perfect in every way. The prices are incredible - 16 Euros...for a three course lunch. Miriam is the amazing Maitre'd and her husband Patrick does the food. This year's highlights: a wonderful goats cheese, fig and cheese parcel; a little pot of squid in sauce; duck; steak; both with wonderful vegetables...a sublime lemon tart. Everyone chats; dogs are welcome; it's simply wonderful.More

A quiet and small restaurant in a quiet little street in a quiet little town in this "forgotten" regio of France. The service by the lady of the house is classy. The food is traditional local cuisine with a personal twist from the chef. You...need to make a reservation, otherwise bad luck! Worth the search.More

We have been coming to this area of France for our holidays for a few years now and each time we make a beeline for this restuarant. It really is amazing; the food, service and prices are incredible...16 Euros for a three-course lunch that truly...leaves one speechless with happiness. The restaurant is very small so it's good to book. There are lovely outside tables for sunny days and the interior is wonderfully cosy for cooler/colder times. Miriam the front-of-house dynamo makes you feel so welcome and Patrick's cooking is gorgeous. Our favourite dishes? Gesiers salad; the gratton slice; veal liver; the pork dish; fish tart; duck parmentier; the brochettes de boeuf; lemon tart; hazlenut tart; the potatoes...I could go on forever because we have never had a bad meal or even a bad dish here. The wine is great and reasonably priced. There is literally nothing I can criticise this place for, except for the fact that we live in England and ony get to go once a year!More

Le Gavroche is fine but I was expecting better. The front of house lady is very good but some of the dishes, most in fact, were uninspiring. It would be fine at one of the cosy little road house type bistros but Le Gavroche had...given the impression of aiming higher. The fact that there was an amuse bouche, the best thing on the day, would tend to support that impression. Some very good wine here, including some very good small bottles.More
