Old fashioned decor in family run restaurant with simple american food prepared well. Pork sandwich was excellent. Chocolate pie was very good.

We loved the atmosphere and decor. The walls are decorated with mementos of the Steamboat age. Service is great. We had sandwiches and pie. The food is home made from scratch, even the ice tea and the salsa (which are yummy). The pie is freshly made and the crust is flaky! We're going back!

Nice family restaurant. Meals like mom would make. German chocolate pie is famous here. Very tasty. Salad bar could be a bit larger or have more offerings on it.

Husband and I and another couple went to this restaurant last night while visiting Hannibal. The decor is old and not too attractive. Furniture is old and dining chairs so uncomfortable I had to change chairs to even get comfy enough to eat. Two of the four ordered chicken fried steak and said it was ok. One person ordered BBQ... Walking on Hannibal's main street at noon, we spotted Ole Planters and decided to get a bite to eat. The tempting smell of sauerkraut filled the air when we came through the front door. I ended up ordering a bratwurst and kraut on a homemade bun. My husband went with a large, handformed hamburger which was more than he could... More

I ate dinner here during the evening. The meal I had was the vegetable and potato plate and it was good. Nothing too special, just good hometown food.

We had catfish and it was good. Just not exciting. We three of us would rate it average. Interesting dining area. Staff was pleasant.

We were looking for someplace quick in downtown Hannibal to have lunch between our trolley tour and the Mark Twain riverboat cruise. We just happened to be walking past Ole Planters restaurant and decided to try it. We both had the tenderloin sandwich on rye bread, along with chips and a pickle. The sandwiches were delicious -- a thin, tender... More

Hannibal is a lovely town with tremendous history. After a morning tour of Mark Twain sites we stopped here for lunch. The restaurant is quaint if not a bit old. And, it was packed. All that said, we were seated immediately by and very busy, but super friendly waiter. You would have thought we were his only customer. The menu... More

Description
We asked a local for where they would go for dinner and they suggested Ole Planters. We could not have been happier. The restaurant had been there for years and its decor suggested this in a charming way. The dinners were a mix of locals and visitors. The dinning was homestyle and yummy. The meats were cooked to yummy perfection just like mom would do. As we were eatting the cook was bringing out freshly made pies which tasted as good as they smelled. One of the customers wanted to buy the entire pie it was so good. We loved Hannibal and this was the perfect restaurant to top off a day of traveling back in time and enjoying Main Street USA and the Mississippi as Tom Sawyer and his friends might have.
